Creating a new partition on my new laptop

Aaaaaaaaaargh! When I began to install a program I realised I had accidentally downloaded the 32 bit version!
I have reinstalled the 64 bit version, this time installing my lan driver. I'm accessing the internet without a problem but I can't access Windows Update. I get a 8024402F error. I have tried the Windows Fix but it didn't work.
Should I initiate a thread in the Network and Sharing section?

Thanks, no AV yet, just in the process of installing Microsoft Security Essentials.
Have done a couple of restarts.
Will follow up that link.
Thanks.

I contacted MS support, and of the 3 methods I was given, using specific Global DNS settings did it for me. I'm ready to start installing programs.
Thanks again for the help.
