Hey everyone,
I just purchased a new X-Fi Pro Series sound card and am having a problem getting EAX working on F.E.A.R. On Vista, ALchemy works like a charm and the game lets me turn on all of the EAX settings. But on Windows 7, ALchemy isn't having any effect on the EAX settings, and so they remain greyed out. Anybody have any ideas?

Ive been pulling teeth trying to get EAX settings to work on F.E.A.R. in windows 7. I have installed Creative ALchemy with no luck. Ive tried setting both ALchemy and F.E.A.R. to run as administrator and to run them in Vista compatibility mode. I hope somebody figures this out because F.E.A.R. is a great game and it would be even better with full EAX and HD support.

Maybe this was just a lucky setting for me, but what I did in ALchemy was select F.E.A.R. in the ALchemy window then click on Edit to check out the config. By default, it was already pointing to a registry path (which when I looked for it in regedit it didn't seem to exist), so instead I just pointed it to "Use Game Path" and just set it to the installed folder (unless you selected otherwise, it'd likely be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sierra\FEAR" assuming you're running 64-bit, otherwise "C:\Program Files\Sierra\FEAR"). No need to worry about sub-folders at all, just the main game installation directory.
Security software may ask permission for F.E.A.R. to co-operate with ALchemy, but other than that it's worked for me just fine. No attempt to run anything in compatibility mode or as an administrator, it just worked fine doing the above on its own.
