Creative Sound Card Problem Thread

Thanks for the suggestion, bloke.

I'll have to try that eventually, the problem is I also can't seem to get system image to work (I have a dual boot with XP on separate drives, but apparently some files for W7 are on the XP drive, so it will only let me create an 80GB image of both drives and I don't have enough space).

So if I start trying these things and they don't work I'm back to formatting, and with everything else working and all my programs (office, CS4, etc) installed and running, I'm reluctant to go through it all again.

I did figure out a temporary solution, though: install the driver and listen to music while I work, then uninstall before restarting. It's a pain, but it works.

Hello All,

I have not updated the thread in sometime for working on a design project. Last night I was up into the wee hours doing an installation of Windows7 RC, since learning that the most pivotal software; Solidworks2009 is now functioning in RC.

So, I also have been able to successfully open the x-fi console in this RC build. Have not really had the time to thoroughly test the sound quality, but as yet it seems to work rather well.

I shall update the thread today to reflect everyones continued issues, so that you may also have resolution to your wants.

Please include links as well. I'm going to try a few suggestions that have been pointed out here. I have a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme, I've not found the right drivers yet. I'm on an older Pen4 system with 2gig's of RAM running 32bit. My main OS is XP.

Is it possible to adjust surround sound balance and/or adjust EQ settings with an Audigy 2 (original) in W7?

The pack I found here does not have the EAX console, which I use to enable CMSS 2 for deeper bass sound as well as more balance towards the rear for more surrounded sound.

This is can be easily resolved by using the Windows 7 RC build 7100, if you are using 6100 or previous it will not be possible without a thorough go-around.

Which build are you using?

Joe are you using build 7100? If so you just need to click the compatibility tab for vista to access eax.

I'm actually running 7137 but I think there is something else preventing your suggestion from being possible... When I try to install the Creative drivers from my original CD or the download here the very first thing it says is "no compatible hardware detected" or something to that effect. I guess maybe I can DL the EAX console separately somehow? Kind enough to give me a link? I don't feel like googling this late... *yawn* hehe

Since May 29 there has been a new X-Fi Xtreme beta driver available here:

Have you tried it? It works fine with my SB X-Fi Xtreme card. Note that it automatically seems to install itself as a "7.1 Surround" system. You will need to go into "Control Panel | Sound" and select ""Configure" to choose the speaker option that matches the audio set-up you actually have.

Listen if your running 7137, then that may also be another reason it is doing what it used to do with 6100 builds. As the 7137 while newer than 7100 is nevertheless not a public release.

From what you describe it is doing exactly what it did in the 6100 builds. You should not a that unrecognized driver pop-up at all.

Consider un/re-installing your 7137 to see if this resolves any missing os dlls', that you need. If this does not work then try dl'ling 7100 official not torrent.

Newer x-fi drivers may also help, but they should not be necessary if you have 7100 you could use the manufacturers cd that you originally used with your previous os.

From the way the program meshes with the driver it 'must', interface with the entire driver/program. So, unless you are going to change the coding no there is no way.

The eax for your particular card is software based not totally on board, thus the reason for the whole programs drivers to sync with the online registration verification to unlock the eax processing.

I know it is a drag to have to do fresh os installs, but I know there are several new builds which all are not as stable in terms of what 7100 RC has available.

I'm suffering with the same problem re erroneously aborted driver installation (in my case with an OEM XtremeMusic card, the latest Creative beta drivers, and Build 7100). I've found if you first install a recent SB driver from Device Manager (in my case the only one that I could access in this way was the "Daniel K." driver in his X-Fi Support Pack 2.0 available on the Creative message board for Soundblaster products), do not delete or disable this driver contrary to Creative instructions, and then install the latest Creative driver package, it will install correctly. Clumsy, but it works.

has anyone tried using the system properties/ device manager and uninstall the drivers then reboot and disconnect your internet adapter so it cannot download the software, then just select update/ reinstall driver in the device manager to do it manually. this will just install the drivers that are required by windows rather than the entire software in the download package from Creative.

just a thought.

I know it is a drag to have to do fresh os installs, but I know there are several new builds which all are not as stable in terms of what 7100 RC has available.

There are two folders provided by Asus for my Supremfx x-fi card, they are :

1-audio driver 32/64bit

&

2-x-fi software(which contains several drivers and I have been through each file the are alot)drivers', for using eax, creative console, karokee, etc.).

I only have two free online file account(can only upload individual files)it would take mad time like hour at upload the tens of megabytes via internet connection available.

Or, else I would provide you. I suggest that you goto Asus or your brand manufacturer's site to get the oem audio driver for your card.

Then try it with " 7100 ", first try it without the vista compatibility mode. Thereafter try it with the compatibility if it does not work.

I have been able to use the oem Asus audio driver and x-fi driver software with 7100 to flawless results.

Hmm, I tried this to no effect what so ever in the 6100 builds. Not quite sure what effect this would return in 7129?

Perhaps it is worth a go?

i have not had any problems with my audio since i went from 7057 to 7100 and still am on 7100 until the rtm will be leaked, but the way i done it is posted somewhere back in this thread, installed all latest drivers in compat mode (vista sp1) including the mobo driver, grfx drivers ect. the only problem i still face with the asus xonar hdav centre is the recording volume controls are blank, boot into vista and they are there, but i dont record anyway so its not an issue. all signs of crakling, popping, phasing out when scrolling up or down in firefox when in 5.1 or 7.1 are gone. though im not using creative anymore i was experiencing the same issues with the asus hdav as others here which was proving it was a windows 7 issue rather than driver/hardware relations.

the reason i mentioned to try installing the driver manually in Device Manager was maybe there could be a file that the creative installer installs that is getting forced to run in windows that is not compatible with win7, by installing it manually it will only locate the drivers it needs to run the hardware, then simply just use windows sound panel to controll volume and go into playback devices to configure 5.1 ect.
the other issue is this may only work on a fresh install as we all know there are files and registries that dont get deleted properly upon selecting uninstall a program and unless you know every .dll ect it installs it will be impossible to track them down.

hopefully you creative owners will have some luck soon cos i know how much it really sucks a@# to have no audio!
otherwise if the rc1 7100 solved the issue then simply reinstall 7100 and use another boot drive to test the newer beta versions, that way if it dont work you can go back to the other boot drive and have a full functional o/s, with out sound there might as well be no o/s IMO (audiophile addict!)

i've tried many different versions of several different drivers--officials, betas, daniel_k's.... .exe's & manual installs thru device manager....some don't install, some do & the ones that do freeze up 7 either as soon as any sound is played or upon 7 startup...fantastic!! (0 issues in XP i might add..i skipped the whole Vista ordeal in hopes of 7 being better ). i'm going to keep trying & if i ever find something that works for my Audigy 2, this will be the 1st place i post my discovery.

update: i overlooked & rediscovered the kX Project drivers, which are working fine :)

Have the most recent soundblaster card certified by MS and Creative as being Win7 certified when I upgraded my 3 year old Dell XPS 410 to Win7 64 bit; also upgraded my Ram to 8Gb, clean installed it to 1 of 2 1terrabyte drives. I cannot hear vocal tracts when attempting to play Dvd's on my computer on WMP and WMC, only the background music. The DVD's play fine, vocal and background when I play them on my only non MS player, Roxio Cinema player. The speakers are awesome THX certified Altec Lansing ADA885, and do not appear to be at fault.
