Creative Sound Card Problem Thread

Thunder2008 -

I suggest adding system RAM to your listing since it clearly is a causal factor in the crackling and popping issue. (I have 6GB.) Also, it would be worthwhile to cross-check the list against postings and add any missing posters who did not list their hardware in the body of their post, but included it in "My System Specs".

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Creative has put up a FAQ and a driver compatibility matrix here for W7 (Sorry if the links are not working, but the Creative site can be a bit tricky sometimes in regards to location etc.)

Some interesting tidbits of information in there. One item that got my attention was this line from the compat matrix:

Audigy 2 ZS (SB0350) TBC

Hmm.. It seems my Audigy 2 ZS is not supported yet in the same way as X-Fi and others are supported, with "Beta driver available".

Hi Dale,

Yes your quite correct in that ddr is a factor with the audio as well as other issues. While that saying about 32bit os needs 1-3max gb and 64bit needs 3 or greater.

Was something that I was able to wiggle thru with my 2gb with the 2000mhz+ speeds, but since changing over to W7 the increase in performance of the latter is much more wanting in capacity.

Ddr3 has also dropped in cost over the last year dramatically~! I once purchased 2gb of pc3-12800 for $500 Ocz flex 1600mhz, now the new flex II 4gb are $180...wow!

Only thing is if I am going to spend any more money on any ram, cpu or mb it will be for the new i7 line, thus the only reason I still have 2gb instead of 6gb.

I will check on all posts to the thread and update those with sigs:)

Just my two (euro)cents.
I got an abit ic35, intel q6600, 2x2 Gb of ram and an audigy 2zs.
With the default windows 7 drivers I would get horrible sound distortion after 10-15 mins in games and movies.
I found on my hard drive a set of drivers titled "SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0001" and since installing them I have no problem whatsoever.
That's in build 7057

Crackling and Popping Problem MAY Be Solved (Well, not solved, but much improved)

I just finished an upgrade install of the 64-bit Build 7068 leaked yesterday and the crackling and popping has all but disappeared under non-gaming use. I'm using my full 6GB RAM for the first time with Windows 7 without triggering this problem. After living with 64-bit Build 7068 and playing streaming music from Pandora and some Media Player all day, I can say the problem has certainly been addressed, but is not quite 100% fixed.

I had no sound issues when Build 7068 started for the first time. When the screen saver was triggered, I lost sound which did not return when I logged back in or even resorted to the "Change Sampling Rate" trick. After a cold boot, I heard some crackling and popping on startup system sounds, but once the system was fully loaded, system sounds and music playback were fine with no crackling and popping. I still lose sound after the screen saver is triggered, but simply toggling sampling rates restores sound for the rest of the session. I'm hoping these eccentricities are due to the fact I performed an upgrade install of Build 7068 and they'll disappear entirely with a clean install or future builds. In any case, MAJOR PROGRESS!!!

:D

Creative X-Fi Popping

I have a problem with my Creative X-Fi Platinum popping and crackling, even with sound muted, under Vista and Win7. I also have an ATI HD4870 installed. The ATI drivers install an ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01. If you disable this driver in the Device Manager the popping and crackling go away.

Im running a Creative XFI sound blaster inbuilt on my MSI P6N diamond mobo, and it tends to recognise that my audio jacks are there and on volume control it shows that its playing sound however it normally takes about 5 mins after start up before the sound comes out of my speakers, at first i tried disabling the other audio jacks (front headphone and digital/optical outout) and that worked fine, but now it has gone back to like it was before...

any help please?

Have you tried downloading the latest drivers from their website? most of the time when you buy something they will only include the initial release (first release) driver for that product and there are usually updates by the time you buy the product from when it was packaged and the driver cd was created. if there is not any driver updates, try booting into safe mode (F8) whilst the system is proceeding in post startup and then locate the latest driver (either on your cd or where ever you may have downloaded the newer driver to) and try running it then.

my graphics drivers for some reason can only be installed in safe mode, if i try it normally i get the same error as you, bsod during install. though it never happened with beta 7000?

hope that helps.
