Creative Sound Card Problem Thread

I didn't do ANY of the 3 things the guy above mentioned. I simply installed Win 7.. and when I got to the sound part. I got on Creatives site. found the drivers for my X-Fi XtremeGamer, they are the 2.18.0013 and they installed with no problems, I didn't need compatibility mode or anything. they worked perfect.

Try taking your X-Fi Card out. Restarting the computer without it.. then power it down again. Reinstall the CARD, and then boot. try the creative driver again and see what happens.

I also heard someone was using the XP 64bit driver with there Xfi and it worked. try that after if you'd like.

im actually not using a creative card, i upgraded to a asus hdav1.3 deluxe, but i was experiencing the same issues as people with creative audio issues, which to me proves that it was a operating system issue rather than a driver issue, once i upgraded to rc1 7100 x64 i then decided to run all installs in compat mode just to be safe rather than having to start again.

asus are yet to open their eyes to windows 7 and their drivers so i suppose creative have one advantage.

i think xp x64 drivers on win7 would be a long shot, but if it works, then great.

i killed my 790i ultra yesterday so im looking at a EVGA nForce 790i SLI FTW DIGITAL PWM board as an upgrade...no more vdroop! i might actually get beyond 4ghz. unfortunate that intel dont support ddr3 and sli together :(

i think i fixed my problem..finaly ;)
i installed new graphic drivers from XFX since and afther that sound stoped only once (when UAC asked if i want to install something and darkened whole screen)

usually if you go direct to the manufacturer rather than the branding vendor (say its a xfx 9800gtx ect) they will have newer drivers first. so in this case its a xfx 9800gtx, go to nvidia website, download drivers from there would usually have newer drivers before the subvendor publishes them on their website. my xfx 790i ultra (now dead) i would go to nvidia and download the chipset drivers direct from them a few weeks before xfx displayed it on their support downloads.

just a bit of heads up incase you didnt know.

It doesn't hurt to try the things I mentioned. While everything might have worked fine for you without doing these things maybe not so for someone else.

My Problem is with the X-Fi Platinum on a p5kc board. Sound will work fine for 5-10 minutes when I am using front panel headset plugged in analog. After that the sound cuts and won't work. A typical example would be that I plug the headset in, load teamspeak, everything works fine, I launch a game like Call of Duty 4, Now my first problems start, sometimes the game will play on the speaker system even though my headset is correctly plugged in and teamspeak works on the headset. Sometimes I have no sound from the game at all. And then, after a few frustrating moments, the headset goes mute, nothing works no sound at all, microphone has been confirmed to continue working.

I am using latest beta driver from creative 64x

in COD4 have you set the sound settings to windows default.

also in windows sound properties/playback devices/double click speakers/select advanced tab at top/select default format to 24bit 48000hz also ensure the boxes are ticked for the two exclusive mode settings.

let me know how you go.

yes I have done all these things and still have the same problem. It really is a driver problem and it probably has to do with the cmss-3d after what I have been reading.

yes, that would be the first thing I tried

i have my xfx platinum in the cupboard somewhere as i thought it was faulty, it started making crackling/popping sounds in games but not music under windows, it was sitting between 2 9800gx2's, but creative support were convinced the heat wouldnt be an issue, that was under vista as win7 was no around then. maybe there isnt anything wrong with it? it did come on randomly tho with the same driver i had been using the whole time. but i have the asus hdav now and there will be no going back to creative.

the only other thing i can suggest is do a complete reinstall of win7 rc1, and install your drivers in the usual order chipset/vga/sound ect then just install COD and see if it has fixed it, if so install one programe at a time and try to pin point if there is something conflicting with it.

maybe try the vista driver in compatibility mode?

sorry but im out of ideas. hope you have some luck.

i know what its like to be frustrated as my whole system is sitting in bits cos im waiting on my new ram to arrive as my old ones are faulty. all this gear building up dust makes me wanna cry. lol. now i just got the old crappy laptop and next doors internet connection until mine gets set up next week.

I have a EVGA 680i LT with a Creative SB Xtremegamer card. I used the CD and everything says it works fine. I dont have my audio equipment yet because Im moving soon. But when I try to update the drivers or even use the beta drivers, I get a message that says "You previously installed drivers and need to reboot" or something to that effect. So I reboot and nothing. Only thing in my computer giving me a headache.

X-Fi + nForce4 + >3GB RAM Still a Problem in 64-bit RC1

FYI. Creative's beta driver 2.18.0013 does not resolve the problems with sound crackling, popping, speedup/slowdown, and stoppage altogether for 64-bit Win 7 RC1 systems with X-Fi souncards (XtremeMusic in my case), the NVIDIA nForce4 chipset, and 4GB or more system RAM. Not unexpectedly, the latest "Daniel K." driver package also does not resolve these problems. In a thread focused on Titamium cards in dual SLI systems on Creative's User Forum, the Creative moderator mentioned a collaborative effort between Creative and NVIDIA to address a compatibility issue that was isolated to bus arbitration logic and was addressed in new Titanium drivers (see message). I have posted a message to Creative's Win 7 beta driver forum asking the moderator to confirm that this Creative/NVIDIA collaboration also addressed, or is addressing, what seems to be a related issue causing the aforementioned sound problems in what will become a much larger segment of Creative's customer base as 64-bit Win 7 installations on existing systems continues to grow. I noted this is not an issue that only affects gamers, but even the most pedestrian of applications, including Windows system sounds.

For the record, I am running a clean install of 64-bit Win 7 RC1 (Build 7100) - the "official" version downloaded directly from Microsoft. My XtremeMusic card was not recognized by Win 7 during installation, so I downloaded the latest beta driver from Creative and intalled the driver using Creative's installation program. After cold booting, sound distortion was immediate, and sound quit altogether after a minute or less of use when my full 6 GB RAM is enabled. As I have reported previously here and in the Creative Forum re earlier beta drivers, using MSCONFIG to limit system RAM to 3 GB or less restores undistorted sound at the expense of system performance.

Note to others suffering with this problem - I have discovered a new workaround, at least with respect to the beta driver 2.18.0013 that does not entail crippling system resources. Disabling the SB Driver in Control Panel, rebooting, then enabling the SB Driver avoids the sound stoppage problem and reduces the crackling and popping to some extent. This workaround does not work indefinitely, but usually lasts several days before I have to repeat the procedure to restore sound.

5.1 surround sound was sort of working for awhile but for some reason the computer thought that the front left/right speakers were the rear left/right speakers, even though I havn't changed the wiring at all since I was using XP last, which it was working properly in XP. However, now the surround sound dosn't work at all. When I go into mmsys.cpl then configure the speakers and click on the icon to test play a sound for the left and right rear speakers the sound plays through the front left and right speakers.

Sound Card: SB Live! 24-Bit USB

Problem: Low Volume

Under Windows 7, both the Beta and the Release Candidate, my sound card's volume has been much lower than under Windows XP or Ubuntu. I run my sound card to a stereo receiver and have had to increase the volume so much that I'm now picking up a lot of hiss and background noise, and it's very annoying; I record to tape a lot and I can't do that anymore because I have to turn the recording level so much the interference is very noticeable.

Right now I'm using Creative's Windows Vista drivers because after installing the Creative Beta Windows 7 drivers it sounded as if everything was being passed through an awful metallic reverb filter...oh, and the volume was still too low.

Naturally, all my volume mixer sliders on here are maxed out, and I can't find any reference to this problem online...it seems people are having plenty of problems with Creative cards under Windows 7, but low volume isn't one of them.

Hello All,

I have not updated the thread in sometime for working on a design project. Last night I was up into the wee hours doing an installation of Windows7 RC, since learning that the most pivotal software; Solidworks2009 is now functioning in RC.

So, I also have been able to successfully open the x-fi console in this RC build. Have not really had the time to thoroughly test the sound quality, but as yet it seems to work rather well.

I shall update the thread today to reflect everyones continued issues, so that you may also have resolution to your wants.

Problem: Drivers install and work fine until restart, then system crashes on boot. All attempts to repair boot process or restore system to previous working restore point have no effect.

have you tried installing the driver in safe mode? i had a problem like that with my display driver with an earlier beta version and had to uninstall it from safe mode, rebooted into safe mode then installed it and after rebooting into normal mode it was fine.
