cross sync FF and Chrome bookmarks without dupes?

Anyone figure out how to continually sync bookmarks between FF and Chrome avoiding dupes and favicon loss?

Seems like it shouldn't be this difficult.

Foxmarks as referenced in the article, is now XMarks. I used it between Chrome and Firefox. You end up with dupes and trips. If I use the native Chrome bookmarks sync, dupes. There's no good way that I've found. Every time I add a bookmark to Chrome I have to bring up FF and bookmark it if I want favicons.

I can put everything in Firefox, use CheckPlaces to get rid of dupes, upload using XMarks, then download into Chrome. But if I go the other way, upload from Chrome and download into Firefox, it washes out all the favicons. The only way I can restore them is using SyncPlaces to get my FF bookmarks back. So I end up having to manually update FF to have a baseline of bookmarks.

It's bizarre because Chrome bookmark sync won't even work right with just Chrome.

edit: btw this scenario is for those who use both browsers but Chrome is default. If FF is your primary then it's easier. You just push FF bookmarks onto Chrome. No biggie.

Ok, I think I've found the "easiest" way so far. On Firefox you need CheckPlaces and XMarks. On Chrome you need XMarks.

On FF you keep XMarks disabled by default.
On Chrome you have XMarks enabled.


Periodically in FF enable Xmarks. Do a Download to overwrite local data with the server data that Chrome has been updating. You will lose most of your favicons. Now with CheckPlaces make sure you have options enabled to replace favicons and eliminate dupes. Run CheckPlaces. Now disable XMarks and restart FF. You should have all or most of your favicons and updated bookmarks from your Chrome browsing.

It should be way easier than this. We need to get the CheckPlaces guy to write a Chrome extension.

At least LastPass seems to work on both so passwords are transparent between the 2.
