I'm surprised that a 790FX chipset would do that though. I thought the whole point of the FX chipset was that they're performance boards for Crossfire. Might just be a BIOS setting... or lazy engineering...

Had a look at the MSI site...according to that both PCI slots are 16 lane...interested in knowing how this pans out as I have just purchased a MSI X58 premium board, tho i believe this mobo needs a bios update on install..

in hindsight i should have bought the Asus P6T :(

According to the Foxconn website, both of my slots are x16, as shown in this screen shot:
WEI009.jpg

But when you plug in two cards, they go to x8. Mine's supposed to be a premium board too.

I hope yours works out better, but remember: Don't believe everything you read.

haha andrew.. enjoy. Although I'm thinking that 500w PSU might have a hard time pushing SLI 5770's I mean it will run it, since power rating are ALWAYS overrated. but it might not last for 2 long being pushed to the max. I'd upgrade to a HX750 or something.

ATI Radeon? HD 5770 System Requirements

and those cards in CF will be a blast. I just sold my SLI 260's and got the GTX 480. and with it heavily overclocked I'm pushing pretty far past the 5870 on it. very impressive. stock is 701 Mhz, and I'm able to hit 870 Mhz and 2200 Mhz on the memory. most peoples 480's aren't doing over 2000 on memory. One guy's can do 2300. but mine hitting 2200 is pretty decent. the bandwidth GB/s rating is going sky high with the overclock.

You are right they are a blast specialy in gaming or anything else, 750psu may haft to happen we will see! since the onlything im really drawing power is the video cards and not hard drive instead of ssd's i think the 500psu might last

Or maybe Gigabyte. I am personally moving away from Asus (not because of problems) for Gigabytes features. More SATA for one thing. Pretty much the same for the 790 FX, 2X16 and 1X8 on both.
