Cursor and page goes crazy

Yep, that's what YOU got. What site you end up on is random.
Not me with FireFox I get the same thing even after a restart with IE8 it goes to the same as FF but with more ads just had to wait for the save/run box

*sigh*

I'll say this as clearly as I can. NOT EVERYONE GETS ROUTED TO THE SAME SITE TO DOWNLOAD.

Indeed, in the course of a few trials I have now been routed to seven different sites. Sometimes I get the same one twice or more. Terrible! Some of them just full of advertisements and rubbish as well.

It was PRECISELY TO AVOID THIS that I was using the link to the developer site!

Obviously this can be a major problem and source of uncertainty for beginners. Confusing as hell! If I had realised this was the case, I would have been a great deal more specific when asking people to download.

I think I will go with the File Hippo site in future.

Thanks for the heads-up on this.

Worked for me two times in a row. I just opened up MAM that is already on my computer and tried to check for a newer version of the free MAM and I ended up a Cnet which I do not like. On Cnet everything is on top of most everything else. Can't read most what they have. Cnet is a bag of worms for me.

Another thing I like about the Filehippo site is that they not only carry the latest version of hosted programs but several older releases of the same one. I find this very handy if I want to install a program on an older, less powerfull system. A previous version of the program may not be as feature rich, but also does not have such a large footprint/resource requirements - but still gets the job done.

thank you for these posts

I registered so I could post a big thank you to you all- I have an old minitower I purchased at work for $25 to use specifically to vpn into work when I am at home- wanted to keep my pristine win7 laptop away from the work stuff. Long/short of it- today after going to some google article about viewing the eclipse live at google's utube pg, the sys freaked out and kept running what immediately appeared to me to be some sort of "fake" malware scans. I ran my avg and spybot but it found nothing aside from a few "marketing" cookies. It then royally messed up the sys and at wits end, I searched for 'malwarebytes went crazy'. After several unhelpful places, I ended up on pg 2 of your discussion. I followed the mbam dnld advice from jacee and after installing and running a full scan it found the below 2 items and repaired-
Registry Values Infected:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Malware Protection (Trojan.FakeAlert)
Files Infected:
c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\defender.exe (Trojan.FakeAlert)

Thank you for this discussion! This sys has been saved from certain death by my 9mm in the backyard :)

I've done scans but found nothing that causes my problem. I've used a couple programs.

Crazy cursor

Mine does this occasionally too - starts scrolling randomly (usually left or right), clicking on Start opens and immediately closes the Start panel etc - a real ghost-in-the-machine kind of thing. I've had it enter text backwards too but that seems to have gone away by removing a Logitech mouse driver. It usually starts if the machine has been booted for several hours so I suspect is related to a particular app messing up a driver in mem (haven't worked out which one as I have far too much junk installed, but my suspicions lean toward something which needs the Java machine at this point..) I don't think I have malware but am forced by one client to have McAfee Enterprise (yuck) so it's possible. Have Spyware Doctor as well though.

I've just read the thread and downloaded/installed/updated Malwarebytes - got directed to MajorGeeks and used a mirror so I don't think I have any installation issues. It found 0 infections (quick scan).

I don't think this is malware.

I have more or less fixed my problem. I say more or less because it only happens rarely. What was happening was when typing the cursor would jump around making it hard to stay where I wanted it. So a guy down at Office Depot showed me to uninstall the driver for the mouse pad. I had spilled some liquid, probably coffee, and the mouse pad on and off would not work. It would be both on and off all the time. so every time I boot up I have to uninstall the driver for the mouse pad. At the same time the problem you described went away except maybe once a week it might have a mild problem. I am using a wireless mouse instead of the pad.

Thanks, Doyal. I'm not sure if my problem is identical although surfing around suggests that the mousepad is implicated quite often. I use a bluetooth mouse but both this and the TouchPoint (I have a Thinkpad) are affected when it happens. It's rare so I haven't really tried hard to diagnose it, but when it does happen the only way I can get out of it is to force a power down, which isn't always convenient (I work in IT).
