Hello

I have windows 7 on a Samsung laptop

My cursor is acting erratically

It highlights objects in web pages and drags them as if I had clicked and selected them when I move it- I up end deleting e mails pulling tabs into new windows in
chrome
It highlights text when I type so that on the next key stroke I delete it.c
It acts as if I were clicking and dragging objects

Even typing this topic was a problem

Please help

Thank you

Steve

If it happens even with mouse unplugged (unplug the dongle as well) then try disabling touchpad with Fn key combo.

Yes it registers left clicks which I aren't making when I move cursor /type- drivers for mouse and touchpad okay

Try disabling touchpad first, it may be a mechanic failure, stuck left click switch or something. Either Fn+some key (my laptop is Fn+F3, yours may be different) or perhaps a special button around touchpad.

If it continue then also remove mouse.

Mmm disabling the touchpad seems to have worked( I disabled it via device manager) . Thank you GoKay! I would like to get the touchpad working okay though. Is it likely to be a hardware issue

I have just reenabled the touchpad and it works fine at the moment- I will wait until tomorrow and if it stays okay will thank GoKay and mark thread as solved- even though I don't really know why it's now working properly

Actually I have realised that the touchpad has to be disabled through device manager / switched off for my computer to work normally - if it is enabled in device manager and activated via the fn/F5 keys the cursor sticks

Interesting, so just disabling from Fn+F5 doesn't stop the problem?

You can also try the touchpad by booting to Linux Mint MATE. Download and make its DVD/USB. Boot with it (no installation needed) and see if its alright.

If it is problematic also in Linux then most likely a hardware issue. If it works, then perhaps Windows is misconfigured/corrupt.
