Custom startup ?

I have got as far as Shell32.dll... erm stuck now help please ?

Well I just searched the ENTIRE shell32.dll, I couldn't find the start-up sounds. I'm guessing its located elsewhere.

hello again let me try doing this from memory. In reshack there is an action menu. On that menu there is a replace resource ( i think) If so then replace 1033 with the file you want. I did it in vista for the xp sound, many months ago.

As long as you have something else in wave format then you should be able to replace it but make sure you have taken ownership of imageres.dll or you will not be able to save it, plus it's a good idea to make a backup of it as well in case something does go wrong.

If you still cant replace it because it tells you it's in use then you may have to find another way to replace it.

You could try saving it as a different name and then drag the original to the desktop and then rename the new one.

With all my customizing I have dual boot with vista and I usually boot up vista to make all my alterations to windows 7.

you doing this from xp or win 7? If from xp you should be able to drag and drop cause the file ins't in use (like MrGrim said) if from win 7 i seem to remember you have to fill in file type, name, and language. type is wav (?), name is what your new file is called, and language (i forget) english?

Someone will have that resource. Make a backup in case

If you can you should install Restorator, you can get a free trial for 30 days and it will let you open the dll and then you can just drag the new wave straight onto the folder and save and your done.

Well I'm totally Pd off with Res-hacker (i get a message saying the file has been changed, i reboot and i still get the Windows tune :sa anyway I'm going to download Mr GRiMs suggestion and try that today.

Are you using x86 or x64, if you are using x64 then you will also have to modify the imageres.dll in SysWOW64 as well.

I'd try the default OS. To find the default OS just..

1. Open Start
2. Type: msconfig
3. Hit enter on your keyboard
4. Switch to the boot tab and it should say somewhere in the top box default OS

K used msconfig a lot, default is Windows 7 ... because its on separate HDD to XP Pro.

That is as im in Windows 7 ATM
