Hi Mark,

In addition to your above post the funcionality is provided by the Movefile and pendfiles command line utilities which are part of Sysinternals

PendMoves and MoveFile

OK, thank you Nigel, I will have to take a look so I can better advise people in the future.

That's not good :(, it may be because of the build your using doesn't like the ones I have supplied, the other alternative is you can download Restorator and replace the icons manually.

restorator - Google Search

OK, open Restorator and drag the custom dll to the left pane to open it and then you should see a folder called icon, drag that to the desktop and then close the dll and open the one you have in System32.

Now open the icon folder on your desktop and select the entire contents and drag them onto the icon folder in the left pane and it should replace them and you should see a little arrow appear on all the icons to state they have been changed.

Now if all goes well you should be able to scroll down and see some of the new icons in the right pane and if they are there you can now save them.

2009-07-06_014125.jpg

Repeat for each custom dll and once you have saved them you will now need to delete the icon cache located in your user name/AppData/iconcache.db, you will need to have your folder options set to show hiden files and folders to see it.

Once you have deleted the icon cache reboot and hopefully you should see all the new icons.

No worries, at least I know it doesn't wok for that build, so anyone else who whats to try this, your best bet is to run the same build and preferably x64 as well and a dual boot is going to be the easiest and the tried and tested method that I know works.

I also have the dll's for 7127 x64, 7232 x64 and 7260 x86 so if anyone wants those then I can upload them as well.

Hey Mr GRiM.. I experimenting, I hope you dont mind. :D :D

MrGRiM.jpg

It will backup files, change the file permissions, check whether it's 64Bit. I could also make it check the build number so I may require your other build dll's if it works. :)

no probs, I have a few ideas for replacing the pesky files, the 'inuse.exe' added another option just incase.

Do you know if the files from 64Bit 7264's System32 folder are the same (or compatible) as the typical 32Bit install of 7264?
(as in are the System32 files universal...)

I just checked and they seem to be exactly the same size as the system32 dll's in the x64 build but the files are a different size in the SysWOW64 folder so I would say they are interchangeable.

Ok thanks, I'll get back to you once I know if it will work or not on mine. It already can tell difference between 64/32bit and backs up fine, them bits are tested and working.

Sounds like progress, I am also uploading the ones I have for my Vista Ultimate x64 setup which should work in the same manner.

Unfortunately my ISP has not uncapped my speed yet even though they were meant to over 3 hours ago so I can only upload at 8Kbps and it's at 10MB out of 72MB so it may take a while.

I'm going to bed shortly so I will just give you the link to my Skydrive and they all have the build numbers dll's for the file names eg. 7127 dll's, so shouldn't be to hard to find.

OK here they are, they are from the latest build 7264 so unless you are using that build I am not sure if they will work so use at your own risk if not and make sure you make a restore point first.

One more very important thing you will have to do is clear the icon cache, located in your user name/AppData/local/IconCache.db to see the AppData folder you will need to set the folder options to show hidden folders.

I used both of these on 7231 32bit. Computer kept restarting during bootup. Went back to my original shell32 and booted fine. Deleted icon cache and logged off. Folerders and icons changed. So just using imageres changed my folders and some icons for me:D My desktop folder shorcuts did not change. They were still the Aeroshine folder icons. Easily fixed by deleting and recreating the shortcuts.

I had minor issues with using shell32 from the Win7 theme Aeroshine. The shell32 from that theme broke explorer's save dialog. So on my next build install, I just tried installing imagres and not shell32, but none of the folders would change until I booted with the shell32 just once from that theme. Then I went back to the original shell32 and folders and icons were still from Aeroshine.
