D: shows little space left, all we saw in it was Recovery and we couldn't open it to view files. Is this normal? We have made a Recovery disc for computer. We keep getting notifications stating very little disc space available and the C: has plenty of space available. We're confused.

That is normal. The OEMs do not waste any space on the recovery partition. Just don't touch it.

Turn off System Restore for the Recovery drive (D: in your case).

I, too, have my Recovery partition showing in red whereas before it was blue. It has 1.03 GB free out of 11.8 GB. Probably because I turned on System Restore for it.

How to know which is the better course of action -- keep Sys Restore on for the Recovery partition and live with the red "warning" color... or turn Sys Restore off and decrease ability to roll back system after a mistake?

Hard disk is encrypted. In addition to above motherboard info from Speccy, CPU-Z reports: "Model: HP 194E, KBC Vers. 91.0D; Chipset: AMD 15 IMC, Ver. 00; Southbridge: AMD A76M FCH, Rev. 2.6; LPCIO: SMSC"
The recovery partition's contents should never change, therefore you should have no need of having multiple restore points for something that doesn't change.

Get those restore points out of there and shut off system restore for that partition. But first check whether there really are any restore points because it could be a different problem. To check, run this command:

vssadmin list shadows

There are at least 2 restore points on D:\

Ursprüngliches Volume: (D)

To get rid of them, run the following command:

vssadmin delete shadows /For=D:

Okay, done. As a nice side-effect, after I did this and also switched off Sys Restore for D: and E:, the duplicate entries for "SYSTEM (nicht vorhanden)" and "C: (nicht vorhanden)" are now gone as well.
