Data transfer from drive c to drive d is slow

Whenever I transfer files from drive c to drive d it takes a lot of time to finish. what do you think is the problem with my pc? Thanks in advance and have a great ahead of us!

Yep robot I was interested in how he is doing it but you are right it is a two-way street and I am wondering how these two drives are set up and whether one is a SSD and the other ? spinner. Not that it should make much difference.

They're probably not "drives" per se, but partitions. MS still calls them drives when they are not physically separate drives. And, transferring data from one partition to another on the same drive is going to be slower than separate drives. But ... the OP is yet to respond to the questions.

Actually Mark I was beginning to think that is what the OP wherever he is means by from C to D because if you think about it the Windows defaults are ABCD and I was always under the impression that C: was the OS drive and D: was the optical.

I have only used D: as a data source in like you say a partition of a drive.

But I stand to be corrected.

Sorry for the late reply, guys.

I partitioned my hard drive into two; partition c (OS) and partition d (some files). Whenever I transfer files from partition c to d it takes too long to finish. And another problem is whenever I transfer a file (for example 700mb) from my pc to my usb it takes too long also to finish. Why is that?

Well for the external that board only supports 2.0 USB transfer rate if it were 3.0 it would be significantly faster. So 700MB would take a fair while.
Why it is slow between partitions is a mystery. Just how are you copying the files?

Here's an example...I downloaded a movie with a size of - let's say 789mb - given the fact that I have a 4gb ram and a not so very high-end processor, the copying of files should only take a minute. Am I right?

My usb is just 2.0, so it shouldn't have a problem, right?

Yes now copy / paste from C: to D: partitions should take very little time to an external again not long have you checked out the drivers for the USB ports?

If there are yellow tabs against some then they need some attention.

Look I have got to go a way for three weeks right now if this keeps up bump the more help thread - sorry but I really have to go.

I don't think you have a problem. Copying from one partition on disk A to another partition on disk A will be slow. The arm has to move all the time. It would be faster if you moved the file.

And if you have a second internal disk, it is probably faster to copy from C to the other disk and then from the other disk to D.

Regarding your flash drive you cannot go by the maximum capacity of the USB2 port. You also have to know the speed of the USB stick - and some are extremely slow. If you want to know exactly, run this program. Let it run to the end and you will have the data.
