"Date Modified" changes spontaneously.

All my files in "My Documents" sub folder have suddenly all changed the Date Modified to July 30, 11:09. It seems that other folders have not been affected. Can anyone tell me why this happened, if I can recover the correct dates and how to prevent it happening again. On July 30 the computer did appear to be running slowly, possible an automatic update. As I was not aware of this happening till 2 days later, I do not know the exact circumstances at 11:09.

Run a full anti-virus scan and then a Malware Bytes Anti Malware scan to make sure you are not infected.

I don't know of any way to restore the dates unless you have a image backup.
