System specs certainly would help. But in general:

Gskill, Corsair, or Mushkin would be my recommendations.
As this is for gaming, 1333 or 1600 mhz is plenty. No big difference between the two, and faster will show no benefit for gaming.
Timings and latency will not matter much either.

Need specs like what motherboard do you have to know what speeds is can handle. Anyways I would go with G.skill, rip jaws or corsair. If your mobo supports 1600mhz then get those, better to just max it out.At least that is the way I see it.

He asked for cost effective ram for his gaming needs and I recommended the brand and model that I have used on a dozen different builds so far.

Windows and Linux enthusiast. Logitech G35 Headset.
It's hard to go wrong with G.Skill - reliable, budget to extreme performance modules and generally compatible with just about any aboard. Plus they're easy to come by in Aus.

Never had any issues with any of my G.Skill kits.

Doing an rma with g.skill can be a pain. They never get back to you for some reason.

Touch wood I've never had to RMA anything with G.skill.

The only reason i would go 16GB is because i do a lot of thingsin photoshop which requires quite a bit of RAM

That's cool then. As long as you have a need then it's not a waste.

So now that the specs are in what would be my best match?

The UD3 - is it an intel/1155 socket and not and AMD? (there's quite a few UD3 boards ;) )

Without knowing exact board, it's hard to check the QVL (Qualified vendor List for RAM compatibility)

However G.skill kits tend to work on most boards so these are the best I can come up with without 'double checking'.

2x8GB 1600mhz 10-10-10-2N 1.5v (relatively loose timings for 1600mhz)
G.Skill Ares F3-1600C10D-16GAO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 [GS-F3-1600C10D-16GAO] - $115.00 : PC Case Gear

4x4GB 1600mz 9-9-9-2N 1.5v (better timings)
G.Skill Ares F3-1600C9Q-16GAO 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 [GS-F3-1600C9Q-16GAO] - $115.00 : PC Case Gear

2x4GB (you'd need two kits obviously) 1866mhz 9-10-9-2N 1.5v
G.Skill Ares F3-1866C9D-8GAB 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 [GS-F3-1866C9D-8GAB] - $69.00 : PC Case Gear

2x8GB 1600mhz 9-9-9 2N 1.5v
G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-1600C9D-16GXM 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 [GS-F3-1600C9D-16GXM] - $135.00 : PC Case Gear

4x4GB 1866mhz 9-10-9-28 1.5v
G.Skill F3-14900CL9Q-16GBXL 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 [GS-F3-14900CL9Q-16GBXL] - $135.00 : PC Case Gear

Hopefully that will give you a starting point. All 'should' be compatible. There is also Corsair, but again without knowing your exact motherboard model, I'm hesitant to give you links and tell you that they will work without dramas.

1600mhz should be your minimum to aim for for the best speed for photoshop. (games as well).

Hope that helps.

And if you haven't used PCCG before - I'd highly recommend them. I do the bulk of my online PC shopping with them.
