Decent Setup?

Hi guys,

sorry if this is in the wrong section, could find one that would suit it best so chose this

I have seen a computer on popular site, not sure on the rules of posting names of other sites but for these purposes we will call it rumtree .

These are the specs:

Intel QX6700 Extreme Quad Core Processor 2.66Ghz

FoxConn Black Ops Motherboard

8GB DDR3 Corsair RAM

Radeon HD 5770 1GB GPU

1TB HDD

Corsair 550w PSU

Corsair CM690 2 Case


I will be getting all of this + monitor,keyboard and mouse for £200

Is this a good deal?, how upgradeable is it in terms of GPU etc?

Will it be good for mid range gaming as it stands?

Hi AspireBlueprint, welcome to the forums.

Well as you properly know the processor is a few generations old now, but not a bad one.

I can't say I know anything about FoxConn motherboards so I can't help you there.

PSU looks fine for mid range cards, you should be fine to upgrade the card to something like a 7850, depends how far you want to go with it. Its pretty cheap at £200 and with a better GPU will be pretty darn good for mid range gaming indeed.

If you want to go higher than a 7850 then you may need to look at replacing the PSU with a higher wattage, I believe they recommend 600 watts for them but I stand to be corrected.

But overall that's a pretty good rig for £200

Yep. Considering it's pretty much the whole package.

Gaming wise, expect console quality with newer titles with a dash of higher settings depending on game.

I can't say I know anything about FoxConn motherboards so I can't help you there.

FoxConn makes a lot of motherboards / computer components for many different name brand computer companies. They are not the best for major expansion because they are designed more for home use but they are really solid and reliable boards. My longest lasting motherboard that I own is an old FoxConn.

As far as the build goes I think it is a decent deal. As Paul has already mentioned its a little older but should be fine for mid level gaming. Honestly what I would recommend though is spending a few extra pounds and getting a setup that is a bit newer. It will obviously be up to date more and you will be able to keep it longer and will probably save you money in the long run.

There are plenty of websites out there that sell refurbished computers for amazing prices. I would look for like a Quad-Core "home computer" and just slap a decent GPU in it and you would be set for quite some time. Hope this helps and let us know what you end up doing.
