Deciding what version of windows to install?

Thinking of installing a different version of windows because my computer is beginning to slow to a crawl.

Should I pick
Win7 Starter? no known 64 edition exists
Win7 Basic? 32 or 64?
Win7 Home Premium? 32 or 64?

Or a version of windows 8.x or 8? 64 or 32?

i have 4GB of ram with Intel Celeron Quad Core J1900 2.41Ghz CPU
and Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail)
and 500GB HDD

currently running windows 7 64 ultimate

Changing the version from Windows 7 x64 Ultimate won't make it run faster but reinstalling might if you are not having any hardware issues.

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate is a good operating ayatem

Just reinstall the 64 bit version you have a key for.

You need a better cpu that`s what`s killing you.

You should max out the memory, put in 8 GB total.

when my cpu usage rise above 1% my CPU clock rises to 2.41Ghz from 2.0Ghz on program CPU-Z

I have CPU embedded onto motherboard so no chance of upgrading it or replacing it.
do you think i need new computer? crysis run at 25FPS on medium graphics settings and minecraft run on high FPS at far render distance
is it worth it to upgrade my computer memory to 8GB what more performance will it bring? how do i buy memory for this computer?

I don`t see any difference with either data sheet, they both say the max is 8 GB of memory.

What do you mean, how do you buy memory for it ? You go to the closest Best Buy or order it from Newegg.com

The best thing you can do to make your pc faster is to purchase a Solid State drive and install the same version of windows that came with the pc.

Buying another version of windows would be a total waste of money.

Install only the one you actually own, preferably the one which came with the PC and has its Product Key on the COA sticker to do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 so you are not wasting a $100+ license.

What's important is to get and keep a perfect install as compiled in the blue link. No one who does that ever comes back and says they have problems, slowing or hanging. Your hardware is adequate. You need a perfect install. So focus on doing that now.

my windows version is clean install to windows 8.1 pro x64 just finished installing I have no product sticker on my computer. it was bought from Walmart preinstalled. so I have no way to make my windows genuine without re-buying the same computer again??

If your Acer came with Windows 8.1 then it`s genuine, you have no worries.

I have no idea what Microsoft is doing now as far as providing any type of COA, Greg will know better.

You have no way of activating a clean install without a 25 character Product Key.

Do you have a Product Key for ANY version of Windows???

Windows 8 will reactivate from the BIOS when you reinstall it. There is no COA key for Windows 8. You can ask for more help for Windows 8 at Windows 8 Forums. This is Seven Forums.

If you bought the computer with Windows 8 on it then it is licensed to run Windows 8. If you want to change the Operating System to Windows 7, then you must use a licensed copy of Windows 7. If you don't have Windows 7 you will have to buy it.

You need to look at this from the point of view of buying a car. If you want to change the engine that came with the car then you have to buy a new engine. The computer Operating System is virtually the engine of a computer.

Did you read what I just Wrote about Windows 8 Reactivation? Why are you going on about buying it again?

I also just said if you have a Win7 Product Key you can use that. So why would you need to buy it again if you already had it installed?

How exactly was Win7 Ultimate activated on there?

what version of windows came preinstalled from Walmart???? That is what you need to get and install. If it was 7 then you can install from a iso download and call microsoft on a robocall. If it was 8 then it might activate itself. You should have run Belarc Advisor beforehand to get the OEM batch product key....

Install MGADiag.exe http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...ws-7-startup-simple-guestion.html#post1256165and let it create a report. Copy and paste the report into the code box obtained by clicking on the # icon in reply box here.

This will tell us if the activation is genuine so that if so you can use the Product Key it generates. Be sure to copy down and then delete that Product Key (but not the Product ID) before posting it back.
