How do I delete them and all of their components?

Windows 7
on the 'personalization' page you can just right-click on an unslected theme and 'delete theme'.

wallpapers are stored in 'c:\windows\web\wallpaper' and sound files in 'c:\windows\media'

you may have some additional wallpapers in 'c:\windows\globaloization\mct'

happy pruning!

It's my experience that your method only works on themes that I have modified and saved. Right clicking an MS supplied theme doesn't even bring up a context menu on my Win7 Ultimate installation.

Yes from my understanding you cannot delete Aero Themes nor Basic and High Contrast themes only "My Themes" Correct me if I'm wrong!!!

Thanks,

How do I delete them and all of their components?

why would you want to?

Because, I find the themes I want to delete to be ugly, wasteful of HDD space, and I want them gone. After all, it is my computer, not Microsofts and the themes themselves are not intrinsically necessary to the operating system. Their removal couldn't hurt anything. I'd gladly trade all their damned thems for Outlook Express.

RA5C first follow this tutorial. Then if you want to disable the theme service and use the classic theme of yesteryear, go to services and stop then disable the Theme service then reboot.

I don't want to disable the themes service. I want to delete the Architecture, Characters and Scenes themes. I want to keep the rest of them.

I've already deleted the wallpapers, and non-Aero cursors. Now I want to get to the point where the 3 themes don't show up in the Personalization dialog.

Apparently this task is just too difficult to accomplish. Perhaps, after the OS is in wider use, someone will figure out a method to delete the Windows supplied themes, Aero and otherwise.
