Defragmenting using "cmd" in SAFE MODE.

I found that performance was best with "Vista Home Premium" when I defragmented in SAFE MODE, using the command promt method.

ie. "defrag c:, defrag c: -b, defrag c: -w",

also in Vista, "defrag c: -a" would analyze

Now that I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, I cannot seem to achieve this in Windows 7.

They have changed it slightly, (ie. "defrag c: /a" to analyze). Does anyone know how to defragment, in SAFE MODE, using the command promt window?

I think if you use "defrag.exe -?" it will give you a list of commands.

Maybe they have changed something. I don't have my 7 machine now, but try it out.

I does give a list of different "defrag" commands, but none of them work.

the best thing to do is get a good defrag program like PerfectDisk that allows your locked system files to be defragged during reboot, what I do is run a normal defrag then a boot time defrag and another defrag afterward this does not have to be this way all the time but once you first install it that's the best way to start after that let in do it's scheduled defrags

No, it didn't work for me either in the safe mode.

However, I just read an article by Fred Langa on using the safe mode for defrag. He stated there was some advantage in doing this with XP;;but he can find no advantage in doing so with Win 7 or Vista.

Personally, I just let Windows 7 defrag run scheduled in the background and it keeps my disks defragmented and I don't have to do anything.
