Delete a downloaded Update that is not installed yet?

how can i delete an update that has been downloaded but not yet installed? i'm sure that this update caused the corruption/deletion of my user profile and i've restored my system to a date before it was installed. but now anytime i want to turn my computer off, it wants to re-install the update. how can i avoid this? thanks!

The best way clear the whole C:\Windows\SoftwareDistrubution folder and hide problematic hotfixes in Windows Update.Of course in this case you remove all downloaded hotfixes (wanted and unwanted).If you really want to remove only particular hotfix use any good 3p file manager (in my opinion build-in explorer is not good too to this kind operations) and search in file names hotfix ID,i.e if you want find data related to KB976672,you have to find in names this ID.

Relate to problematic updates:

If really some updates cause problems I suggest contact with manufacturer support or MS support,hidding updates is only temporary solution,if you leave it,you will have another problems with other updates in future too.

Try this:

1. Click on the "Start" menu.
2. Type the following %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\
3. Open the "DataStore" folder and delete the contents of this folder.
4. Restart
