I'm running W7 x64 (7000) and usually when I delete a URL from my list of Favorites, it reappears at the bottom! Does this happen to anyone else?

Hi Tom,

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Doesn't seem to be happening here. If you close favorites and open it back up, is it still there?

Gary

Yes, it's back permanently until I delete it again. Some times I have to delete it two or three times before it's gone for good!

Are you doing the deleting from IE or are you in the Favorites folder in Win Explorer? Might be something to do with IE.

Hello Tom,

One thing to try is run explorer as Administrator (right click the shortcut) if this works check the permissions on the favourites

Hello Tom,

I have full permission on the Favorites folder. I keep all my folders (Downloads, Desktop, Favorites, etc.) on a drive separate from my Win 7 install, using the Location tab in Properties to relocate them. If I have to do a clean reinstall, it's so much easier that way. One clue is that if I delete the URL from the Favorite folder directly and empty the trash, it doesn't reappear. There's probably a bug in IE8. The only thing I don't understand is why it's only happening to me!

That entire favorites thing is just a mess from what I'am seeing. I have vanishing favicons all the time and also my sign in cookies vanish for no reason. I had no such problems with Vista on my other partition so it's a Windows 7 problem all the way. I would think they could fix these types of problems with an update so we can only hope that more people complain about it.

Hi chev65,

That's what Beta testing is all about, the best thing is to provide feedback using the built in facility and it should be fixed before the final release.

Whether this actual issue is with 7 or IE8 the reporting of the issue should get to the correct team at MS.

Although Windows 7 is a stable piece of software, as a beta problems will show up

Of course I have reported this problem in great detail to Microsoft. It will be nice if an update comes along and it fixes this problem. Looks like favorites has some strange behavior in general but I'am sure it's fixable.

Did you relocate your Favorites folder to a different partition/location?

If so, do you have two Favorites Folder in your user profile links? That might be the reason why the links have been reappearing again as it's replicated in two folders. Delete the old folder.

Hi Tom,

As mentioned by Barman58, verify the permission of your favorites folder.
Validating relocated Favorites folder permissions are a bit trickier than the norm :D

open a command prompt then type
icacls <Favorites Path>
Capture.png

check if you have the following line Mandatory Label\Low Mandatory Level: (OI)(CI)(NW)

If you don't have that line or it's incomplete, open an elevated command prompt and type the following;

icacls "D:\Favorites" /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low
then enter :D

changing "D:\Favorites" to your Favorites path

Check if your issue is still there.

Note: This also applies if you can't add favorites to your relocated/moved favorites folder.

No old favorites folder on my system. And the links don't reappear they disappear along with my sign in cookies randomly for no reason at all. This is a known problem with older versions of Explorer. They talk about it here but there is no fix for the new Explorer as yet. https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=389663

Yes, I've noticed these inconsistencies with IE browsing as well, since I make it a habit to delete all cookies and browser activities when logging off, my favorites icons resets to the default IE icon

It's a very helpful feature that you can visually recognize the sites you're visiting. I do hope they'll come up with a fix in the final IE8 release.

OK I found a fix for this problem of favicons not working correctly. This small utility made by Google checks your favorites and puts them back with a button click. I have also noticed that they stopped disapearing after I used it the first time. I believe it sends them to a seperate file for safe keeping which keeps Explorer from flushing them out of the cache all the time. Link below. It's simple and it works.

Sounds like - the URL is saved in more than one location (by whatever means). When you delete the one you are looking at, the OS re-lists one from another location.
