I've seen threads like this here before none of them solved my problem.

I was installing and when I did a clean install and it wouldn't work when I got to

exit

xcopy F= D= /h/i/s

^ it would say invalid file.

I tried to install anyways after doing some research finding nobody having that problem, when it got to 'Expanding windows files' or something like that, it would stay ay 0%.

I read somewhere that the 100mb system reserved file is useless, and I deleted it because it was not present on the installation tutorial... but apparently I read the wrong advice...

Now when I cut it on I have no options and it won't boot, can't access BIOS.. How screwed am I? because this is not my laptop it's a friends I thought I could fix.

Thanks man, but there seems to be like 20 options within that option.. Can somebody give me the route I need to go, my only resources are this computer which is a windows XP, and a couple blank CD's.

I can't access the pages that the link you sent me suggests I can access. & it seems I need a running windows 7 to create a 'repair disk'... can someone specify what exactly I am capable of?

I understand it may be difficult to know exactly if you never been in this exact situation, but any help is appreciated.

You said that you were installing Win 7. So you must have Win 7 install disk. You can use that.

Why are you using those commands ?

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

Put your windows 7 iso on a flash drive if you can`t use your dvd drive.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html

If you create a partition for windows, you won`t get the system reserved partition.

Before installing Windows 7 from the USB key, you will need to:
  • Enable Legacy USB storage detect in the BIOS.

i can't access BIOS, though I know how to make a windows 7 USB, the boot process is CPU, dvd, THEN USB..

Will this still work? thanks

cpu is not part of the boot order.

You should have a 1 time boot menu key, F8 etc.

Use that to choose the usb drive.

Why can`t you get into the Bios ? What`s preventing it ?

I deleted the system reserved partition which was apparently essential to booting the computer I literally have no options, off the bat.. Is what I'm saying. On this computer it says 'Press Esc for startup menu', I would normally access BIOS through there.

It is not letting me enter though.

It says 'BOOTMGR is missing'
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

You not only deleted system reserved partition. You also made another partition ACTIVE.

I was told to do so during a youtube installation lol.. i've used it before but the last windows 7 I installed didn't have a system reserved partition.

I will attempt the clean install here, after running startup repair 3 times.

If your going to re install, what`s the point of running startup repair. If the install is asking for drivers, then you most likely have a bad install dvd or unproperly prepared flash drive.

And you need to use a real Windows 7 and not this custom garbage you are trying to use, technically we shouldn`t even be helping you.

What version of windows came with the laptop ?

That`s what you should install, unless you have a proper retail or oem version of windows 7 with an activation key.
