Solved Deleting folders in Win 7 64-bit

When I try to delete folders moved from an earlier computer, I sometimes get a message saying I need permission from a user (e.g.) S-1-5-21-2525366777-830484531-1026876974. I assume this user is me on the previous computer. How can I delete the folder.

I would also like to know how to delete system information folders when they are on a backup disk and have no relation to that disk's system information.

Hi Gib and welcome to Seven Forums. You need to take ownership of the folder. This tutorial is for Vista but it should be the same. Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums. Option 2 is the simplest.

If you delete the subfolders first in the folders you are trying to delete, you might me able to deleto those without any trouble.

I had already deleted all the contents of the folder and still couldn't delete it, but the "take ownership.reg" file did the trick.
