Deleting Program Files (x86) to install RecoveryDVD to factory setting

Hi, how are you? I need help deleting Program Files (x86). I was trying to restore the computer the FIRST TIME I got it, but I've found out that the Recovery copy won't make any changes because I have two(2) Program Files for Internet Explorer, one is for 64bit OS, and the other is 32bit (x86).

I've tried to enter in the command prompt: takeown /f "C:\Program Files (x86)" /r /d n and it displays ERROR: The current logged on user does not have ownership privileges on the file (or folder) "C:\Program Files (x86)". But I am the administrator and the owner of this Hitachi Laptop Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit OS.

I could not play any movies via internet, and I don't know what plug-ins are missing, so I want to restore the computer to its Factory setting.

All 64 bit OS's have those two program folders, you don't want to delete the x86 folder.

What ever your problems are it is NOT because you have both those folders.

You are asking for big trouble if you start messing around like that.

Try running this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html and post back what it says.

It will find and attempt to repair corrupt system files.

If you actually want to restore the computer back to the way it was when purchased, then you don't need to remove anything prior to running the restore function. You didn't post any system specs, but if you have the restore CD from the manufacturer it should be a pretty simple process; insert the CD and follow the prompts is usually how it's done. Keep in mind everything will be erased from the HD, so if you have anything you want to save, be sure to back it up on a different media.

Deleting (x86)

Hi, thank you for your replies. I am using a Toshiba Personal computer AMD E-450 APU with Radeon.

I made a recovery copy the first time I got this computer, but when I inserted the CD to restore to its factory setting it says Invalid and that I have to choose which system type should I use 64 bit or 32-bit (x86). The original system type is 64-bit OS, so I really have to delete the 32-bit(x86) to make the recovery CD right to the original computer system.

You have got the program files and system type a little mixed up there.

You do not want to delete the program files X86 folder.

Please fill in your system specs following this tutorial,

Don't forget the model number and whether it's a laptop or desktop.

Don`t you have a recovery partition ? Can`t you start thr recovery process from the boot menu ?

The choice it is giving you is only whether you want 32- or 64-bit, nothing more.

But I would not run Factory Recovery from the disks, since they should remain only a backup method or you'll have none.

Run Factory Recovery from it's partition at boot as follows: Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility

Another consideration since you've come here for help where we specialize in getting the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 is to read over the steps in the blue link to see if you'd like to dump the factory bloatware to get a perfect reinstall of just the OS.
