Dell 1440 cannot boot windows 7

Hi,

My DELL INSPIRON 1440 cannot boot to windows (Windows 7 Ultimate). Stuck on black screen with blinking white dash; i believe this is after POST (after the DELL logo, before entering windows. CTRL ALT DEL restart the laptop)

CANNOT enter F8/windows system restore. CAN access F2 for BIOS SETUP or F 12 for BOOT OPTIONS.

Last activity was ordering a chkdsk on one of my partition in my one and only HDD. The chkdsk did not go through, rather ordering me to restart the laptop. Here was the stuck began. NO BLUE SCREEN prior to this.

I suspect the laptop failed to locate boot system or something.

Tried fix:

1) Run DELL Diagnostic Tools (F12 menu), result PASS but stuck on last menu windows (DRMK, where we can input command afterwards C:\>____)

2) BIOS SETUP to Default option (F2 menu). NOTE: there is NO HDD Option under the Power Management Tab in F2 Menu.

3) Attempt System Restore via CD/USB. I have a different windows installer (Win7 Pro as opposed to Win7 Ultimate) in DVD Media, and created an NTFS USB system repair iso file from internet. I manually selected those items to boot in F12 MENU in separate occasions.
Nothing happened when I inserted the DVD (ie goes to black screen with blinking white dash); and when I use the USB, it said there is "no operating system installed" in the laptop.

I've also detached and re-attached any 'outside' and easy to plug-in and out hardware, including the HDD and CD-RW. Also other things such as printer attached currently.

TOOLS that I have. I have a somewhat working Windows 10 laptop. I am ordering an enclosure to diagnose the HDD from outside of my DELL 1440.

I have a somewhat OK understanding of how computer works but no IT background

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks and cheers!

Will take some times to replicate and provide a picture, but I will try to explain in text first

When I pressed F12 in BOOT MENU, I chose DIAGNOSTIC and the laptop run a diagnostic tools.

I let the machine did its' things and it take around 40 mins or so, it runs LCD test, Memory Test, etc. and the result returned PASS for all test.

By the end of the test it returns a kinda like a CMD windows, where I can input via keyboard, the instruction said something like this (incomplete, re-created from memory)

"DRMK Verson 8.00 ....."
"some other lines, I do not remember sorry"
"C:\> _____ "

And I could input something in the "___"

For the second question,

Do you mean i detached the DELL's HDD and plug into another machine? I have not tried it yet, my enclosure still on the way, and I will need an enclosure to try and read the HDD in my WIN10 Laptop.

If you are asking about the NTFS USB, yes the USB read just fine in my WIN10 laptop.

I edited the main thread just in case, for some aditional informations.

Okay so i have my enclosure now, and I've plug the HDD on my Win 10 laptop,

The disk were there but status is INVALID in the diskpart and Disk Management.

Try to ONLINE DISK on both but no result, my only option is CONVERT TO BASIC DISK using Disk Management. I am not sure if data-loss will occurs; but there is warning pop up prior to executing the option.

IF anyone can help on
(1) fixing the problem without data loss OR
(2) way to back up data prior converting to basic disk. OR
(3) have experience on whether or not converting to basic disk incur data loss.

Please let me know! Any relevant answer will be much appreciated!

Thanks!
