DELL 1545 - After shutdown always restarts.... :( , help ?

Hi all,

I have a Dell 1545 Laptop running windows 7 ultimate.

For some reason whenever i shut the computer down it automatically restarts just seconds later ...its very annoying and havnt got a clue why it does it.

Ive tried a fresh install to no affect...can anyone help!

It may be from the internet. Go to Device Manager, double click on Network Adaptor, then double click on the adaptor that shows up (e.g. Nvidea or Ati). Click on the Power Management tab and uncheck the box " Allow this device to wake up the computer".

I dunno, skippy, and welcome to the Seven Forums.

I'm just going to toss this out for fun. How are you "shutting down" your laptop? Are you selecting it from the menu? If so, is there a possible issue with your built-in shut-down button?

Also, are there any updates that did not install correctly necessitating a reboot?

Perhaps one of those left a startup switch enabled telling the computer it is in "rebbot" mode rather than shut-down mode?

Sorry for all of the questions. Just tossing out a few ideas. Check your start up programs in msconfig and try using your physical "shut down the lap top" button.

Hi ,

I shut down via the power button..ive checked the setting and it is set to shut down.

Havnt really installed much and nothing caused errors...as I say it was doing the exact same thing before the reinsttall...its so annoying.

I press the power button , computer turns off , 2seconds later the fan boots up and turns on the laptop !

You say you pressed the power button as in with the manual "start up" button on your laptop? If so that isn't the correct way to shut down Windows. The start button on your laptop works like a reset button and isn't made for shutting off the machine.

Use the Start orb "lower left" to shut down, start orb then just click on where it says "shut down" to shut down or turn off your laptop.

If your computer is Energy Star rated you might have something called Wake Up On LAN. This allows a computer to be powered on or awakened from standby, hibernate or shutdown.

Go into your BIOS, find the PnP hardware settings and disable Wake-on-LAN (it may be in a different category depending on your BIOS).

Next, go to Device Manager. Find all your network adapter(s), right click and select "Properties". In the "Power Management" tab(s), uncheck "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby".

Go into your BIOS, find the PnP hardware settings and disable Wake-on-LAN (it may be in a different category depending on your BIOS).

Interesting thought, marsmimar. The software side was covered earlier, as indicated above. Perhaps your Bios solution is the key?

Hi, my A35 Tohsiba/Win 7-32bit Ultimate, does ext same thing. Wake-on-LAn is disabled in BIOS

This still happening after I installed all critical/important updates from MS today.

It did not appear to be a problem until after I was trying to solve problem of computer not waking from sleep with any key being pushed. So tried various power functioning settings to fix sleep issue and eventully back to orignal settings and still no wake from sleep with any key and now the additional problem keeps rebooting self.

Pushing and holding power button does seem to keep it off after the 2nd time or two. Ebuc
