Hello, I've recently been having problems (past 4 weeks or so) with my laptop crashing. Sometimes the screen will completely freeze and neither the mouse/keyboard or power switch do anything so i just have to wait until the battery runs out to reboot. Other times the BSOD will appear, usually only for a few seconds and then the computer shuts down or the screen goes black.
The problem occurs at any time even when there are no applications running. After looking for hours on the internet to the solution i decided to come here because the advice which people are given appears to of a good and helpful standard. Ive tried doing basic troublshooting of hardware/ reinstalling any recent software etc. but my technical knowledge is quite limited when it comes to computer crashes. Below are details of my pc and a zip of files which may help to solve the problem.

Manufacturer: Dell

Model: Studio 1747

Processor: Intel Core i7
CPU Q720@
1.60GHz 1.60GHz

Installed memory (RAM): 6.00GB

System Type: 64-Bit Operating System

OS: Windows 7 x64 OEM

The computer is about 6 months old.

Thanks in advance for your help and time.:D

Solution - fixes the freeze for dell studio 1747

hi,

i found a solution to the freezing problem on the dell 1747 studio. i had the same issue, but i also had another issue which was the windows loading (which took like 20 minutes to get to the start up desktop screen).

the solution is, never put your laptop into sleep mode. change the settings in control panel, and the start menu to "HYBERNATE".

i dont know why the dell 1747 has issues after waking from a sleep. but i do know that after your laptop wakes from sleeping mode...it tends to freeze after several minutes.

it took me ages to try google and find a solution but no one had an answer....so after i changed the settings to hybernate... i have not had one freeze (mmm well i did one but there was a reason for it - i was downloading like 10 big files at one time, and i was playing a PC game).

hybernating takes a little longer than sleep mode, but it does the job. it must be some sort of hardware (possibly ram) issue.
