Dell Inspiron 1300 chipset drivers

I put Windows 7 32 bit on a Dell Inspiron 1300 and it has gone pretty smoothly. After the install it only needed wireless drivers and video drivers, which I got from the Dell website. It said they were only for XP and the installer EXE's didn't work. I was able to use the device manager to locate the extracted INF files and just do it that way and like magic I had my wireless drivers installed and video drivers even though they were only supposed to be for XP.

I have the chipset drivers extracted but... how do I know I need them? If there are no yellow '!'s in device manager, can I assume I have all drivers properly installed? If I do still need chipset drivers, how would I go about installing them from a folder full of INF files (remember the XP installers aren't an option)? I used the add legacy hardware wizard which lets you choose from things like Display adapters, Infrared devices etc but it wouldn't take the autorun INF at the root of the extracted chipset driver folder.

If it looks good in DM and you have no problems and system speed is good, I would leave it.

Its rightly suggested by madcratebuilder if the device manager looks fine and system is also working fine then there would be no need for installing the chipset driver.

As Windows 7 would have automatically installed the drivers for the chipset. If you still want to install our drivers then you can download the Vista compatible driver from the link below:

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Sorry for posting in such an old thread but I am having the same problem can someone tell me how diplo done this " I was able to use the device manager to locate the extracted INF files and just do it that way and like magic I had my wireless drivers installed and video drivers even though they were only supposed to be for XP" I want to use this computer for downloading so I don't infect my other computers but cant get the proper drivers because they run on older OS and I want to run win 7. Again sorry if I piss people off for posting in such an old thread but this sums up in 1 what I need to do and I have been searching for ages on how to do this

Using the Service Tag number for your Dell [on a white with black or black with silver/white] on the case, may be on the bottom or in the battery compartment, log into support.dell.com and entering the number will get you to the page where you can download the driver/s. The file should be saved in Downloads. Double-clicking that download will start the decompressing followed by install process. Make note of where on the HDD the file is stored, usually in C:\Dell or maybe C:\Drivers. If the install routine fails it may work in Device Manager and Update Driver to point to that Folder that was created. Instead of accepting Dell's Rxxxxxxx numbered Folder I change it to whatever, Audio, Video, Network, etc., to make it easier to find.
