Hi all,

I have a dell inspiron n4050 - i3 with os linux ubuntu.

I want to change the OS and install windows 7 on it , and i have did the correct steps for formating the HD.

I had deleted all partitions and split the HD for two partitions and start installing the windows on the c: drive ,after that windows finished installing and system restarted i got a blue screen with error saying to upgrade the BIOS ..

Now the laptop is without any OS and the windows is not running.

Can any one helps with this issue and tell me how can i fix it !

THANKS.

What do you mean the Win7 you have is on more than 3 pc's. Are you trying to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which came preinstalled on the Dell? If so use the Product Key on the COA sticker to reinstall only the licensed version. If not then how do you plan to activate it?

Download Hiren’s BootCD 15.1 to write to flash stick Hiren's BootCD From USB Flash Drive (Pen Drive) » boot into Partition Wizard from Hiren's boot menu to Quick Wipe the HD, then partition it NTFS Primary, rightclick to Modify>Set to Active. This may be enough to get the booted Win7 installer to detect the HD and install.

If not you can boot into XP on Hirens to install the BIOS update.

For anyone who is getting similar problems by installing Win 7 on this laptop (Dell Inspiron N4050). I've made this, and it solved all my problems:
- Change AHCI to ATA mode on F2 Bios Setup.
- Format then install Windows 7 (i used Ultimate x64 SP1). When the setup is finished, do not restart.
- Downlad the Bios update and install it (Drivers & Downloads | Dell US)
- When the bios setup is complete, reset and then install all necesary drivers.

Additional: I only downloaded and installed the WIFI/Bluetooth driver (the 311mb one) and then update the others drivers from Windows Update.
