Solved Dell laptop IE9 add-on removal

Hello everyone!

I purchased a dell Inspiron laptop and went through and uninstalled a bunch of things, including the bluetooth that came with the laptop. Shouldn't have, but did. It is now installed agan. However, in IE, a bluetooth add on remains. I do NOT want a bluetooth add on, but it wont go away. Here is what it looks like:


As you can see, parts of it are removed when I attempted to delete it uninstalling the bluetooth driver and using Ccleaner to delete bluetooth registry items. Yes, I am not sure why I thought the driver was connected to the addon. They aren't.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello Dusty.

I would have thought the easiest way out of your dilemma is a system restore to a point before you uninstalled the bluetooth add-on.

You can then just disable it if you don't want it.

You are right, but the sheer amount of things I've done on the laptop would be wasted in a restore. I should have thought of that before. But even with a restore, the add on would remain. This isn't one of those big problems, but I would love to see that addon go.

You can only delete ActiveX controls that you have downloaded and installed. You cannot delete ActiveX controls that were preinstalled or add-ons of any kind, but you can disable them. To delete an ActiveX control that you have installed, use the Add-on Manager. If the add-on cannot be removed in Add-on Manager, you might be able to uninstall it through Control Panel.

Right click it and select More Information, if you are lucky the Remove button down at the bottom won't be grayed out. If not good luck with that, it's almost impossible to remove them once they are installed if they don't have an entry in add remove programs. The best you can do is disable them.

Not so lucky. Alternatively, It would be awesome if I could reinstall it as it is missing parts of it. As I've mentioned, reinstalling the bluetooth driver doesn't help. It looks like this:

It's part of Atheros Bluetooth Suite!! Uninstall it if you want to

Can't uninstall it, it in't listed in control panel
I'm going to head home to see if I can install it again with the driver CD and then remove it. Lesson learned: don't play with the registry until after you uninstall the program!

Well, a complete reinstall (recovery partition) Did it. Now all is good. o.0

Looks like I'm just going to have to recover my computer every time I screw it up. Thanks guys
Wish all this crapware wasn't installed, so I didn't have to take the time to remove it. Does anyone actually use this garbage?
