desktop computer freezes after running for about 5 minutes

my HP desktop computer keeps freezing after running for about 5 minutes. I am running windows 7 and have run all kinds of antivirus and malware programs with no threats detected. It runs fine in safe mode, but in normal mode the screen will freeze after running for about 5 minutes.

Use Clean boot,

Click Start and type in the search box,
msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
Repeat the screen shots,

Also on the services section uncheck the box to Hide all M$ services and scroll the list for GWX.exe and see if it exists. no need to post screen shots of it just review the M$ services for it.

Thanks for your help. I tried the clean boot and the computer ran longer before freezing, about 15 minutes. Any other suggestions? thanks

Have you tried doing a chkdsk ?

This sounds more like a faulty HDD
But it could also be something else. Best to check it :grouphug:

Have you checked your temperatures, machine could be overheating ?

I tried to do a check disk, but the command prompt said access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges....?

I don't think it is overheating since the fans are running and it is cool to touch.

Thanks. I followed the tutorial but did not reach the same screens. I am running Windows 7 home premium and found the advanced tools option, but there was no option for error checking.
