Solved Desktop files read only

All my desktop files suddenly became read only and when I right click the desktop, I only have the "folder" option under "new"

Any ideas?

You probably need to take ownership of those files.

Can you copy/paste files to desktop?
Goto folder C:\USERS\<your account>. Rightclick folder "desktop"->properties->tab security. System, administrators, <your account> all have full control? Tab Owner: Are you the owner?

Do you actually store files in the Desktop folder or just shortcuts? When did this first start and what updates or installs have you done recently?

Not the file ! But folder c:\users\<his name>\desktop itself. He can only make "new folder" in that folder. I assume no new files. c:\users\<his name>\desktop has wrong permissions and files inside most likely inherted the permissions

That did it although i'm not sure how this got unselected.

Oh man I don't exactly remember. I think administrator didn't have full control but for some reason the list of permissions for the user folder are slightly different than the list of permissions for other folders.
