Hi there,
Thanks for letting me join.
I have a new issue on my laptop running Windows 7 that I seem to have a new folder called Desktop in my Downloads folder; not sure how that happened.
when I double click on the new Desktop folder, it opens to show all the files and programs I have on my actual desktop.

Can I delete this folder?
I'm a bit scared to do that without hearing from the experts first.
I really don't want to mess up my computer.

Can anyone help with that?
Thanks very much,
Michael.

Yes, you can delete the folder. You may have (without realizing it) moved the Desktop folder from it position at the top of the Explorer Tree (file manager) into the Download folder.

BTW, "Welcome to the Seven Forums, and thanks for joining. Hope we can be of help whenever you need it.". . .

Hi Lee,
I just did as you said and deleted the folder and everything on my desktop disappeared immediately after doing so.
All my files on my desktop have are now gone.
I can find my few documents I had on my desktop but all videos and pictures are gone and cannot be found anywhere on my laptop.
This is not good.

Hi again,
I have added shortcuts back to my desktop for Michael folder and Computer folder and now this desktop folder in My Downloads is back.
I can live without the videos and pictures from my desktop, but why is this desktop folder re-creating in my downloads folder? I do not want it there.
thanks.

Why are you keeping videos and pictures on your desktop ? They should really be stored in the appropriate folder and you should have them backed up somewhere else too. Always backup what you don`t want to loose, just in case you delete something by mistake.

Thanks Shawn,
I have had a look at option 2 and might attempt this when I get home this evening but am thinking I might just live with it.
Will this cause me problems keeping it the way it is now?
Thanks.

Hi AddRAM,
I'm not sure how to reply to your post, but here goes....

Have I broken some Microsoft or Windows law by keeping 3 videos and 5 pictures on my desktop?
I usually keep my photos and videos in their respective folders like a good boy should, but really, what is it to anyone where I keep my files on my laptop? I had those select items on my desktop because I wanted to. That is the only reason.

Thanks for your backup tip, I have 3 external hard drives and do backup regularly but had not backed up these few items yet.

I hope I have answered your query.

Thanks,
Michael.

Only the problems that you are having now.

The steps in the tutorial may look like a lot to do, but they are pretty simple and straight forward if you would like to try them. If you have any questions, then please feel free to ask. :)
