"Desktop" folder appearing on desktop

Recently a folder called "desktop" keeps appearing on my desktop, If I click it it just links me to the explorer and every time I delete it it simply reappears.

Also the icon for the folder doesnt look like a normal folder, what on earth is going on here?

Right click it and click on Properties,
If there's a Location section go to it and there should be Restore default location.

Wow....I wonder what happens when you delete a Desktop folder from the Desktop. I'm thinking that if you see a blue phone box appear outside your window, that it's probably something you may want to rethink!

Look for a desktop.ini file under your users's accounts...could be that some desktop.ini is starting up...just delete the .ini file...

Desktop.ini is a hidden, protected operating sytsem file, present in some folders, that stores information about folder customization. Since the desktop is a folder (C:\Users\<user name>\Desktop), it can contain this file. It's OK to delete the file. To prevent it from appearing, go to Control Panel > Folder options and turn off viewing of hidden files and/or system files.

it seems this problem isnt just a desktop folder thing. Im seeing these weird folders that all link me to the explorer all over my computer, they are everywhere, even in the movies folder there is just folders of the same name that dont do anything and when i get rid of them they simply reappear. annoyingly 1 of these folders appears in "files ready to be burned" so it keeps telling me ive got files ready to be burned to disk every now and then.

What Security suite do you use and what toolbars/ third party themes have you downloaded ?
This isn't a normal thing to happen except for the burning thing which is fairly normal,
Click the Start button and click on Control panel,
Do these folders have a Location section ?

You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
