I haven't installed any Windows updates for the last three years, after the horrors of 2016 (forced install of Windows 10, nagging, telemetry, etc)

Anyway, a few days ago I heard about two critical security updates released over the past few years, and thought I had better install them:

kb4012212 - to fix the EternalBlue threat

kb4499175 - to fix the BlueKeep threat

However, since I did this, my desktop gadgets are now appearing 'on top' of some of my applications.

Can anyone help?

I'm trying to, two, too, but you are FIGHTING ME!
Better yet, why don't you run these tools from my OneDrive and I'll show you the problem, OK, YES

Tools run in order please, if there is a prompt, please follow it. AutoSURT64, i the CBS folder is greater that 8 MB remove the cab files and upload as a zip, rar or 7zip please.

sfc /scannow

OK how about trying to uninstall the gadgets and reinstall them?
Do you know how? NO
Quite often, if an update causes issues, reinstalling the application (gadgets in this instance) may resolve the problem)
Do you know what EventViewer or the logs generated therefrom are?
No
Is that understandable enough.
Would you like me to try and help you?
Yes
No
I don't have a problem with explaining at any level, just let me try to help you, that's all.

I don't provide my time here, for free, to argue with someone whom requested our (SevenForums Members) FREE assistance.

Ultimately a REPAIR INSTALL will fix it. I usually don't need to go there, or I determine very quickly that WE need to.

Comprendo Senor!

Help you?

No

LOL, what's with all the "no"s and "yes"s?

I do know how to reinstall the gadgets, and I have just tried that and that didn't work sadly.

Do you know what EventViewer or the logs generated therefrom are?
No
You're correct, I don't know anything about EventViewer!
