I visited some website and not sure if it was add-on I had to install,
but since then the website icon appeared on my desktop along with the
internet explorer icon, both not shortcuts, and they are now not deletable.
There is no delete option in the right click menu and when I press Delete key
nothing happens. (usually a message would pop up to confirm the deletion)
I tried finding the website from software install/unintall in control panel,
but it's not there.

could anybody help me with this?

I check my email regularly, please email EMAIL REMOVED

Excellent advice! One more thing to try is right click the desktop and select refresh. I sometimes run shell commands etc. and for some strange reason, the icon associated with the explorer window that is opened will appear on the desktop. Refreshing the desktop will make it disappear.

And that is excellent advice, too.
