Solved Desktop Icons are messed up??

As you can see in this screenshot:

Programs like ESET Smart Security, iTunes, Quicktime Player, Winzip, Microsoft Math, Microsoft Office Icons and Adobe Reader X all have the same icon (I think it is the icon that applications have but i have no idea why it appears this way)

I restarted after a scan by SUPERAntiSpyware, and then all those icons were messed up!!

Can anyone help me?

Do the shortcuts still work?

You might see if rebuilding the icon cache may be able help fix them.

go to your superantispyware quarantine section and see what files are in there if any linking to them programs with the icon problems

The icons work perfectly, only thing is that they have that weird icon. I will try your method Brink, I will post the results soon.

Try right clicking on each Icon/properties and look at snip to change icon.

I haven't done any changes to the system, I just ran a scan I do every weekend.

Have you tried deleting the icons after using Brink's solution, then re-adding them?

I know this sounds off the wall but I would uninstall winzip using Revo Uninstaller and re-install it.

Do winzip first while I do some more searching for you...

Just another question, if I decide to like format my pc with a CD...would it matter if I get Windows Professional or Ultimate even though the PC came with Home Premium?

Was Home Premium OEM?
If so buy the upgraded version to Pro or Ultimate.
DO NOT FORMAT YOUR PC UNLESS YOU KNOW THE OUTCOME!

Try doing a System Restore to a point BEFORE you ran Superspyware or what ever it was. Pick the newest by date and or time to when you ran the Superspy.

I am not the frequent user of this PC, I only use it sometimes. My parents use it all the time. I just ran a scan like I always do every week and, well, the icons were messed up. I know that if I format, I will lose all my data, my question was...would it matter that I currently have home premium?

Looks to me like SAS has emptied some or all entries from C:\Windows\Installers where many programs get there icons from. Your easiest(?) option is to re-run the setups for the icons that have reverted to the "default unknown". This will repair their entries in the installer folder. It used to be a very common problem with M$ office.

This may not be considered as an answer, but I have a L505, and it is being used for over a year same as it came except a couple of system restores. Its performance is so good that I have never thought upgrading it. I am using Ultimate on my G72, so I cannot tell you not to upgrade, all I can say that it is stable and its performance is so good with Home Premium, and I never risked it to upgrade to Professional even though I had a licence for it before.

About the icons, whenever my icons are my messed up, I go to Properties, change icon, put the address exactly to the address bar (C:\Program Files\Program\Program.exe for example, instead of using the"installer\shell\program icon" -as it was in your screenshot-". Just copy the target without quotes to the icon address bar, and press enter. There should be icon files in the exe file.
