Desktop Icons Move after SendTo command

Win7 Pro x64, Default Aero interface

When sending a copy of something on the desktop to a USB flash drive or a folder on another drive using the context menu SendTo command, the command executes ok but when finished, the icons of the item(s) being sent move up about an inch. If multiple items have been sent they line up vertically. All of this destroys the arrangement on the desktop.

Note that Auto Arrange Icons & Align Icons to Grid are not checked.

Any ideas?

Install a program that remembers the desktop icon placement so if this happens, it's simple to restore them. I use DesktopOK. There are other programs that will do this as well.

I spent some time looking into ways that you could troubleshoot this. I opened process monitor and watched for explorer to update this key...



...but alas, that did not happen. Mine was a simple test: move a desktop shortcut and then press F5. Explorer writes to that key in XP - but I did not see that happen in W7 (maybe I missed it). Anyway, my hope was to be able to tell you how to setup and filter process monitor's data in a way that would capture whatever app was barfing your desktop shortcut's positions.

All I can suggest at this point is to use an app like Ztruker suggested - I use Desktop Restore.
