Every time my pc boots some icons on the desktop refresh and fill slowly. When I disable the server service the problem disappears, but I need that service as I share files with other people. How can I solve the problem so that some of my desktop icons will not refresh every time the pc boots?
I've Tried to increase the icon cache size, and rebuild the icon cache but to no avail. Would appreciate any help :)

Interesting, happens to me as well. Since Windows 95 :p
Some searching show everyone complain about not refreshing though, wonder if there is a setting or part of explorer process?

The Problem is due To Server Service trying to map Network

As I Found out allready the problem is caused by a service called server which automaticaly detects links to other network places and tries to map them in advance resulting in that terrible slow refresh which leaves the icons white for a few seconds before filling them). One solution is to make sure there is no shortcut to a network place on the desktop unless its in a folder (in which case the server service ignores the shortcut). The server service is very important for network sharing and other network activities so disabling it in the msconfig start up is a bad idea. Another problem might arise from one of the programs trying to connect to a network place and that should be avoided too if possible. Hopefully somebody can give an advice on how to tackle that server service problem. :)
