I know this question has been asked before - I have briefly searched the forum but haven't seen a definitive answer.. Most threads are pretty 'old' so I'm pretty sure most know the answer.. When I perform an action to a file (delete, move, etc..) the action happens but the desktop doesn't reflect the change until I manually refresh it..?? It's not a serious problem - but annoying.. Thanks for any help..

Thanks for the reply.. What disk are you referring to?? I am talking about performing actions on files on my hard drive from the desktop.. When I delete, move, rename, etc.. a file the action happens - but the desktop doesn't reflect the change until I manually refresh the desktop w/F5...

I meant your Hard Drive(disk).:)
In the start search box type, disk, then click Disk cleanup, this will remove temp files and such. Don't click on advanced to clean restore point, you may need one.

Thanks to both for the help.. I'm at work now and will take care of the fix in the morning.. This computer manages a networked home theater system that I use 'a lot'.. I upgraded it to Windows 7 about a month ago and this is the only problem I've had so far.. Will let you know how it goes...

Welcome
This should work,
Back up registry and make a system restore point (another registry safeguard) the do this
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/4230-registry-backup-restore.html

This should work
Click on Start at the lower left
Type the word regedit in the search box and hit enter
Right click HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and click Find
Type dontrefresh in the search box and then hit enter
You will see DontRefresh, right click it to change the settings, set it to 0
Boot your computer. It should be set properly.
Be sure to make a system restore point first, to restore registry if necessary.

Desktop not refreshing (Possible solution)

Had this stubborn problem for a while, (Windows 7) comes and goes for no apparent reason. Well today I think I fixed it, not sure why but performed the following action; perhaps the technical guys here will be able to translate this fix into a full understanding of the problem/solution:

Method-Goto>
1. Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Personalization
2. Select "Display" (from left side navigation area) and under the text heading labelled "Make it easier to read what's on your screen" select any option other than the one you have presently selected.
3. Restart. Your icons will be all messed up (worse things have happened at sea).
4. Change the setting back to how it was previously/how you like it.

This resetting seems to cure the problem. Perhaps the pros will understand why. I was wanting the font sizes to be larger and just stumbled on this as the solution for the desktop not refreshing problem.

Thanks to all for taking the time to reply - I tried several tips I received to no avail.. The problem seemed to come and go as others stated - but about a month ago the problem went away and hasn't been back.. I just figure it was taken care of by one of the many updates?? All seems to be running 100% at this time - even Netflix is running in mc.. Thanks again to all for the help with my questions..
