device & printer panel does not load?

I installed a fresh copy of W7 (not upgrade). I've tested a few builds over the last few months and 95% of the time had the same problem.

When I click devices & printers from start menu or within control panel, the green status bar in the top window starts to load very slowly and eventually halts at the last tiny bit but none of the installed hardware nor any icons appear in that window.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-AW190, Core 2 Duo, 4GB memory and 64bit W7.

All my devices appear fine in device manager otherwise and work fine.

I too have the problem of Devices and Printers not loading. This problem just occurred because the icons have been appearing until today.

Really weird, when selecting Devices and Printers (Device Stage) in the menu the progress bar would take forever and never display anything - just blank.

Finally discovered it was actually a bluetooth issue in services. I don't even know why I looked there - -

THE FIX at least for me..

Click Start button, type "services" into the search program and files box. This brings up a list in the menu, select Services. This should open a list of local services on your system.., Find 'Bluetooth Service" and make sure it has started, right click and set to 'automatic' (mine was already set), Select "Bluetooth Support Service" and start, set to automatic (mine was set on manual) --

This fixed my issue, hopefully yours as well..

omg thanks the fix worked. the panel loads and everything works like it did before!

i suppose this is because devices and printers also loads bluetooth related things, and since the bluetooth service is off, bluetooth doesn't work. So, the devices and printers panel is searching for a reply from the bluetooth driver or w/e and it doesn't get it so it just never loads.

didn't think about this at first, but this seems to be the reason, and the above mentioned fix works great !

Anyone else having this problem? I tried the fix in here, but I have no service called "bluetooth support service". Perhaps that's a problem. I do have Bluetooth Service, and I set that to automatic.

I just did a fresh intall bringing my Vista machine to Win 7. I do have a bluetooth adapter installed, which seems to be working. And, in all accounts except the admin account, the devices and printers panel works fine/normal. But in my admin account, it hangs up loading the devices and printers view, and never completes, leaving a blank panel. Printer works fine in all printing applications, etc., jut the control panel view for devices and printers does not show anything.
Thanks

Still not working

as mentioned above, I too dont have "Bluetooth Service" on the list.
I started the Bluetooth Support, but no luck with loading the Devices and Printers.
Any other solutions ?

For what it's worth, I created a new Admin account and it works fine. Now, I am not sure at all if it's related anymore, but I did check the bluetooth service and it's already running and already on automatic on the new account, just like I had done per this thread's instructions for the old admin account. The old administrator account that WAS giving me problems was the first account I generated after the Win 7 load. Maybe someone smarter than me can figure out what the problem was, but for my issue, I consider it solved.:D

For those who don't have "Bluetooth Service".

For those of you who have only "Bluetooth Support Service" under services and it is set to automatic but still can't open up Devices and Printers try the "Print Spooler Service". Stop the Print Spooler/ open up Devices and Printers/ then Sart the Print Spooler and the the "Devices and Printers" page will populate(or atleast it did it for me).

As of now I can open up "Devices and Printers" just fine. If I come across this issue again the first place I will go is to the Print Spooler.

Hope this helps.

OK, is anyone having problems with Word '07? "Devices and Printers" not loading is caused by the print spooler, Word '07 not opening because of the default printer driver having issues.

Step 1: stop print spooler in "Services"
Step 2: open up Word '07
Step 3: open "Devices and Printers"
Step 4: start print spooler and refresh "Devices and Printers"
Step 5: change default printer or correct your driver issues

I think this issue has something to do with Word not being able to grab a printer.

Good Luck!

Wow, that's weird. But starting the Bluetooth service solved this for me. I disabled it, since I don't use it... well... I'll have to leave it running as it seems, Microsoft knows why

thanks for help!
