Running around in circles for hours trying to resolve this issue. Message is Event ID: 7023 The Diagnostic Policy Service service terminated with the following error: Access is denied. This problem is NOT about accessing the internet, as I am here on the forum posting this. It's about other event errors caused by this. Event ID: 7023 Diagnostic Service Host service terminated with the following error: The requested control is not valid for this service and Event ID: 7023 The Diagnostic Service Host service terminated with the following error: The requested control is not valid for this service.

The DPS service is set to automatic start up, but it can't start at boot, which I assume that it is a SYSTEM privilege. I checked every entry of the User right assignment of the Local Security Policy and made sure that the SYSTEM, the Admin, and myself (I am the Admin) have access to everything. This is a single user desktop without password or user restrictions. I also modified the registry of the DPS Start: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DPS\Start and tested it with the values of 0, 1, 2, and 3 and rebooted each time, but it made no difference.

Hi,
Interesting possibly it was a March update :/
There have been quite a few issues surfacing about it,
Most people do not install Recommended updates unless they address a issue they are seeing,
Seeing the way you use your computer Bitlocker probably would not ever be used ?

TZ, Thanks again for the reply and the link. Wonder if there is a reliable and comprehensive list of services which can be set to 'manual' or 'disabled' altogether in a single user simple environment like mine, and a list of Windows optional / recommended updates?

This is not a setup or security issue, but rather that I may have tinkered with some service settings which had a trickle down effect. Also this is a BIOS booted 32bit desktop and not EUFI. It is also a fresh install made at the end of March. So far I have resolved numerous event errors, after thoroughly investigating their importance or lack of it.

My data is backed up properly, and the only concern is the integrity of the OS, which is protected by an alternatingly created system image backups daily, before I tinker with the internals, so I always have at least two fresh copies of the C drive. This is aside from the system restores.

Hi no problem,
I suppose the moral of the story is
Unless a recommended or optional update addresses a issue you face they should not be downloaded and installed :)
These settings will exclude them from being mixed into real Important updates
And even then create a system image well before thinking of installing important updates too ;)
