Thank you. I used Revo, and it went through the process, but afterward office 2007 still shows in the list of installed programs. On the other hand, I no longer find a folder for it, so I think it worked.
I did this after using the earliest restore point, May 30. That would be the date I had done a complete restore, which removed all my files and programs. I realized that must be where the 2007 had come from. When I bought the computer, the store had removed all the trialware for me, but that restore must have brought it all back. (I also now have the worthless Microsoft Works).
The first thing I did after going back to the May 30 restore point was set update NEVER to scan for updates, since setting it to ask permission was ignored. Then I disabled my wireless LAN. This is drastic, I know, but this office 2007 is the most persistent VIRUS I have ever seen.
I have turned the LAN back on to access this forum and download Revo. Now I will shut down the computer and see if it tries to install any updates during shutdown. Cross fingers. Cross toes. Cross eyes...
