Difference between these processors?

Hi i am looking to buy a new computer,

I have seen some processors such as intel icore 3, icore 5,

The icore 3 processor is 3.2ghz whilst the icore 5 processor is 2.4ghz,

I thought the igher you go in temrs of i core the better the processor is,

Could someone explain the difference please,

i5 are at a higher price,

Although the frequency is Important the FM bus speed is just as Important and Motherboard

FM bus speed is how fast the Processer transfers the Information from the core to the Mobo

Of course with the correct Motherboard you can Overclock

What are you planning on using the computer for?

Im looking to use it for running large amounts of apps at the same time,

Virus, internet other small based programmes, i know ill need a alrge ram for this,

I might be considering using it for gaming aswell although this isnt priority,

I am considering getting an acer all in one computer,

Not done much research into these though so not sure whether there any good or if i should keep away from them,

The i3 is a dual-core cpu. The i5 is a quad core cpu. The i5, by virtue of having 2 more physical cores, among other things, is better.

If you are planning on multi tasking and some gaming then I would go for the i5 for the very reason as Fumz has mentioned about the quad core

But the choice is yours as the end of the day

Assuming you are talking about the 1st generation i cores. The i7 would depend on which one you are talking about. Some of the lower to medium end i7's are 4 cores but hyperthreaded. The high end i7s are quite expensive 6 core processors and can cost about $1000 US.

The difference between i5's and i7's is that i7's have hyper-threading. All i7's have 4 physical cores and then 4 virtual cores. This is advantageous if the applications you use hyper-threading. If you don't use anything that takes advantage of it, you won't notice a difference between the i5.

Mainly a good graphics card. Maybe one of the gamers will give a better answer, but from what I have been told it's the graphics card that will hold you back. A 4 core processor will play any game. A high end graphics card will cost more than the CPU.

Looks OK BUT DON'T PAY the 209 GBP "Warranty" -- that's a THIRD of the price of the PC itself -- The Manufacturer's standard warranty will be O.K for at least ONE year.

Three years is also a LONG time in computing -- you might want something else by then.

IMO these "Extended Warranties" are usually a total SCAM - the premiums paid are totally in excess of probable risk of failure.

Companies actually make their profits on these rather than on the profit of the article you are buying.

I've even seen people pay MORE for the warranty than the cost of a NEW replacement such as 80 GBP extended warranty on a Printer that only cost 64 GBP in the first place !!!!!

I suspect some basic mathematics is lacking here.

BTW it's not unknown for some BMW dealerships to make MORE money on financing the cars they sell than on the actual vehicle themselves.

Always avoid these "Extended Warranties" like the plague -- expensive and a rip off.

If you MUST insure equipment in addition to the standard manufacturers warranty then do it independently yourself .

NEVER get it at the store where you buy the the kit.

ACER stuff is prety OK and their website seems to have all the drivers you'll need.

thats overkill for 1080p any 5 series or 6 series will not under any circumstance struggle at 1080p obviously some perform better but they will all do it.

a few of the dual core processors will wipe the floor with a quad core becuase it doesn't matter at all if the game doesn't support multicore even a single core will do just as well at that point.

8gb of ram is not required there isn't a game on the market right now that will come close to using 4gb never mind 8.

i use a 4870 and don't struggle on 1920 x 1080 res pushing to 2 monitors and still enjoy decent performance...not great but good enough.

OP if you go for an i3 you will get a better amd for the money but if you go i5 or i7 then you will enjoy a better experience.

in terms of graphics any of the newer ati or nvidia 1gb cards will be more than enough, they all perform about the same in single card setups ati may be slightly ahead but the margins are not really noticeable to you figures on a graph may look pretty when pointing out the difference but you will never notice the difference between 96 fps or 101 fps.

standard ram is 4gb depending on just how much multitasking you do and what they are will change that requirement, photoshop and video editing require more anything to do with rendering will want more if it's there and will help.

the acer all in ones suffer from the same problems as i macs, upgrading is a pain as is repairs they can overheat due to small enclosures and you will be stuck with whatever hardware is there.

Wrong. A 4870? You try to play the Witcher 2, Metro 2033, GTA 4, Civ 5 on High? Doesn't work. You say good enough? All new games support multicore to some degree. No 5 or 6 series can max out the above games completely. And RAM is cheap. So get 8GB.

Regardless of how cheap ram is, you are better off putting more money in the GPU,, You do not need 8G of ram for any gaming system period. 4G is plenty.
And if all you are doing is Streaming Video, surfing the web and writing docs and emails, you will never use more than 4G.

It can be proven time and again. Infact, Ram is cheap, so I would encourage anyone to get the 4G's and test it out, prove me wrong, you can always add more.

the 4870 will not run those games maxed out. Trust me I know. I had a 4890 and had trouble with GTA4 and Metro 2033 and Witcher 2 could only be played on Lowest possible settings.
See my specs,, I can Max out GTA4, Metro 2033 and TW2 runs on slightly medium settings, that is due to the CPU and MOBO, or system as a whole (ie; old HDD's with small cache), my system can't push the card I have all that well.

Again, 8G of ram, no matter how cheap is a waste of money.
The only reason you will need that much is for PhotoShoping very large photos or Drawing large pictures, Video Rendering, Audio Creation (as in composing a very large orchestra), or more than a few Virtual Machines.
But never for gaming,, you will get more out of a higher end video card than you will ram.

i didn't say the 4870 could run them at max settings and i wasn't endorsing the 4870 as a viable purchase....but hey i do enjoy crysis 2 on extreme settings so it does the job for now, i've not tried any of the games you listed but you said 1080p gaming not individual titles which is very different.
