Solved Digital Signature Error oxc0000428

Hello, I'm new to this forum. Excuse me if this was posted before. I recently upgraded from Vista x32 to 7 x64. I'm getting the error stating, windows can't verify the digital signature for this file, winload.exe. status 0xc0000428. The computer will not boot unless I have the windows disk in the cd drive. THen, everything is ok. I tried just about everything that I found but, the same old thing. My question is, why does it boot to windows with the disk installed whereas the disk has the same files that were installed on my hard drive? I never had this issue with Vista. I even re installed win7 to see if that made a difference but it didn't. I tried bcdedit, bootrec, sfc /scannow, disable integrity checks, starting in safe mode, etc. If I keep the windows disk out, when booting, and after getting the error screen, it asks if I want to boot to Vista, which I don't even have. I deleted the windows.old folder. I have all the updates installed. Could this be a bug in windows 7 or is there something I'm missing. I'm willing to try anything. Thanks

The boot manager says device= D: whereas the boot loader says device= C:.
Is that the way it's supposed to be? My windows is loaded on my C drive. I do have a D drive, but's a slave drive. My two cd drives are labeled A and B. My boot order is: B drive(CD) and then C drive(HDD)
I made a recovery disc and leave it in drive B so I can start windows. Any thoughts here?

Needs be to downgraded to Vista.

If I use one of these repair programs, will my original product key work to reactivate windows? I did try an upgrade again while in windows with my windows 7 dvd. Is that didn't than what you're suggesting?

Hi Dude, I downloaded the win 7 home premium sp1 (media refresh) and it said it was corrupt when I tried to run it. I see there's other versions that have either media refresh, old u or rtm listed at the end of their file. Which one would I be using?

I also downloaded the win7 home premium sp1 (old) and it says it's an invalid file when trying to burn it. Any suggestions?

When I unzip the iso file, the only thing I get is a readme file and one that says, bootable_noEmulation. That's showing a size of 4kb. The original download was about 2gb. And that took a good hour to download. Something's not right here.

this is likely to be problem with windows bootloader. somehow, the bootloader got messed up after the upgrade. this link might help :

Since this error showed up after first installing 7, I don't have a last known good configuration. All those steps provided, I had already tried to no avail. As long as I keep the disc in the drive, it boots, which puzzles me. I hope MS realizes this is a real problem and makes an attempt to make a fix for it. Thanks for your suggestions, though.

Hi all. I believed I fixed my issue. I had the line in the bootmgr: disable_integrity_checks, wrong. There's supposed to be two Ds in disable.(DDISABLE) I rebooted without the disk and it started. I still like to know why windows claims they can't verify the signature for winload when the file's properties say the signature is ok. THIS has to be a glitch in windows 7, I believe.
