Disable forever. "Special permissions"

Hi everyone :huh:

i found this forum when im looking for way to disable this protection, sometimes i need to delete some folders and i cant, im tired of "Special Permissions"

how can i disable this forever? (and to any file, total control)

thnks but dont answer to my question.
i have the UAC turned off,

but i can't delete some files, pop-up window appears to tell "you need permission to perform this action".
damn i am the admin i want "special permissions" to all files, take "Full Control" of the files and folders. to delete, read wareva..

That ain't gonna happen - you cannot log in as TrustedInstaller / System, and that is the privilege set you'll need to not have those permissions there.

If you think you know your system that well, why upgrade to Vista / W7? get XP and you'll have full control - and will need 3 layers of protection that this one feature alone helps prevent....

If you cannot take control of the folders, there is not much you can do, short of (possibly) logging into Vista and taking control there.

Hi:
Since I been using win 7, (I started with 7000 and now I am using 7100). some folders in my C:\ drive have a lock, for example Config.Msi, has a lock and it appears that more than one program uses this folder. I have tried to reset permission without success. Now I have a second folder Config.2Msi.
I am the admin and the owner of the machine, I turned ACL off.
Is this a security feature of win 7?
How do I disable the lock?

Take Ownership

Ran the registry patch at this location, allowed me to edit folders I did not have access to, gives you ownership of the folders.

Very long reboot after "Take Ownership

I skipped Vista so all this special permission stuff is new to me. I wanted into "Documents and Settings" so I could move my .PST Outlook files from my XP system. The .reg file and the take ownership worked fine. I was worried that the "Everyone" and "System" permissions were now gone.

I booted the system to see if all was well. Well that boot took about 45 minutes. During that time the boot sequence was in super slow motion with about 1% CPU and a regular slow rythmn on the hard drive light. I left the room after about 30 minutes and had dinner. I came back to a black screen with no response to any key,

I powered down and cold booted and it came right up. Can anyone explain this. I don't know whether to keep going with the install. Should I start over and use the transfer utility or keep going?

Never happened to me in Vista, I have Vista installed on 3 laptops and 2 computers.

I upgraded my main computer to Windows 7 at launch, everything was good for about a week then take permission dialogs started popping up whenever I want to rename, move or delete a file. It is very annoying, sometimes I feel like throwing my mouse, keyboard and computer tower out the window. The problem got to the point where I was unable to download files because the folder to save my downloads needed permission!!!

Microsoft needs to address the bug ASAP because it's driving me nuts, I've low level reformatted and reinstalled twice already and freakin bug keeps coming back after about a week or so. Funny thing is I cannot find a solitary thread @ TechNet that discusses the issue and Microsoft has acknowledge this bug with Windows 7 but doing nothing about it.

Windows 7 maybe the best Windows release ever but because of this bug a lot of users out there are having a very bad experience. I'm on the edge of insanity here, I'm thinking of going back to Vista or upgrading to XP.

Not sure if its the same problem or a slightly different one, but we've got similar problems with permissions on several machines running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

We have a domain server (2003 SBS) which requires us to log on as domain\user. All users are administrators and UAC is turned off. These are all legit OS's, and were clean installs (not upgrades).

Most files work fine, but on some when trying to copy files or delete files from a data drive on a system with Win 7, get "must have permission from domain\user", which we are logged in as. We've tried taking ownership (which is silly because the owner is logged on anyway) and of course that doesn't work. We've tried the registry hack listed above, that doesn't work either. All of our systems are dual boot (with XP Pro), and logging onto XP with the same user/owner doesn't work either.

Since we've got this random problem on more than 1 system, and never had it before installing Win 7, it appears to be a Win 7 bug with profiles (the files in question are not inherited and won't allow us to inherit even though our users are administrators with full permissions). I have no idea why it happens on some files and not others. I have no idea what causes it or how to get around it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we're now virtually locked out of editing our own files. Thanx in advance.

After a fresh install I go to Local Security Policy - Local Policies - Security Options - Accounts: Administrator account status - Enabled.

Reboot back into the full blown admin account and delete the the account you are forced to create at install.

No more right clicking and selecting "Run as admin" which suits me fine.

Not an option on a domain server to log is as Adminstrator (domain\adminstrator) if we want email forwarded correctly via exchange.

Also fresh install is fine, unless the file you're trying to access is on the C drive (in this case on the desktop of her Win 7 installation). If she does a fresh install now she'll lose the data completely.

Strange thing is that because it is on her desktop, obviously at one time her permissions were fine since she must have created it there or pasted it there from somewhere else. For whatever reason something has changed, which again leads me to think something in the file properties has been corrupted by Win 7.

Just curious...has the workstation had any Windows updates recently? (I sure hope your company doesn't permit automatic Windows Update to workstations.)

Our company consists basically of my wife and I, and 8-10 systems plus the server.

Windows updates are set to notify, but don't download or install. All updates are current on all machines, other than the language packages that we'll never use, so I guess that's a "yes" to updates being installed lately.

Try a roll back from the last couple updates and see if the functionality returns.

She had restore points all the way back to her installation, nothing has worked. I doubt it has to do with Windows Updates, but wouldn't bet the farm on it either.

I would have to agree with a few of the sentiments posted here regarding issues with permissions in W7. I am on my second fresh install of W7 for that very reason and have now hit another issue with an installer again. No it is nothing mentioned anywhere in this thread or anywhere I can find on the Internet and as usual TechNet is worthless. I have been at this for 30 years now, so I am not a new user or anything; all that can be said is that there are some problems and READ THIS, they are not in Windows Server 2008 R2. I am certainly happy to have maintained all of the other machines here with Server 08 or Server 08 R2 as the same applications, in the same order simply do not cause problems. I just installed an application that I was fortunate enough to get an error dialog with the denied folder(s) on it, simply some sub-folders of its own program folder, changed its permissions while at a break point in the installer, resumed and was able not to have it really go wrong. Sad thing though that I have one application I cannot use or uninstall for it did not install properly and won't uninstall because portions of it (the uninstaller) are missing. I would not rule out a KB with this issue, for the first install wouldn't even allow ADOBE to install without making it halfway through and telling me it was unable to install 99% of it, making it impossible to install or remove it properly. I have attempted everything I know to no avail and am certain while the majority will read this and post this and that which will likely be irrelevant as well as "call me crazy" (which I would understand if I had never experienced it first hand; especially with NEVER seeing such a thing in R2...) but this issue will come to a head at some point I am sure. Local Security Policy Settings are correct, this time the only user account is the Admin account as well, still no help... BS if you ask me, but I suppose no one did... It will be interesting to see how this plays out...

1. Run Command Prompt as Administrator.

2. type: net user administrator /active:yes

3. Log out

4. Choose Administrator

This is the full administrator that M$ disable by default, use this to install software or as a general account if you want.

In regards to the windows files and folders being "Fully owned" you can do this by running the reg file for ownership that lives here http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...ership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/

You will need to run this on all files however, this works for win7

Why do you want to control windows files though, most don't need to be touched at all....

Exactly. People keep posting the same fixes (which don't work). Until they run into it themselves, they can't acknowledge that this problem exists. And M$ has yet to acknowledge that its a problem as well.

I realize they're trying to be helpful, and I do appreciate their attempts, but it gets frustrating when people assume we're all idiots and don't know how to take ownership correctly or how to correctly log on as full administrator.

(Not really a fix but...) If I were you, I'd format again, and again until everything installs correctly (I'm persistent and a bit of a perfectionist that way). Then make an image backup of the OS to get you at least that far when the next problem occurs. I realize that's not the fix you were looking for, but I haven't found anything else that works yet either. Acronis image backups have saved our bacon many times, but unfortunately the wife overwrote her backup with this problem already on her folder.. doh! (I keep telling her to make 2 backups and only delete the 1st one after she's sure that then next one is flawless, but she thinks that's a waste of HDD space.)

Try this, seriously.

1. Run Command Prompt as Administrator.

2. type: net user administrator /active:yes

3. Log out

4. Choose Administrator


I work for an Insurance company in the IT area and we produce software inhouse for our advisers to quote insurance on.

We don't offically support Win7 yet but we do if an adviser has an issue.

We had a guy who could not even get the CD to spin, after a restart he tried again, the CD worked this time however the install went fine but none of the .dll's registered at all.

He had installed it under a normal default user. This will either be User or "Administrator" which is rubbish, it's not really a "Full" administrator account, so active the full one via CMD screen and try installing that there.

Then login with your normal account and test the software out.

What exact Adobe app are you installing? it might not be supported/tested/released when win7 came out.

Also remember this a forum filled with the key software developers from Microsoft, I think only a few MVP's are on here but I seem to get the feeling people get angry on here if something is broke as if its a Microsoft forum.

Let us know, its the only way we can try and assis you with your error and troubleshoot it down to the real problems.
