Disabling IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules

I recently purchased TuneUp Utilities 2012, and one of its recommendations for optimization is the following:

"We recommend that you switch this service (IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules) to 'Manual' instead of 'Automatic' startup. This will speed up the system startup process and still leave Windows and other programs the option of starting up the service if and when its needed."

However, every time i switch to 'Manual', it reverts back to 'Automatic', so i decided to change it to 'Disabled' and avoid having to correct this every time i log on, so my question is why do i need it at all if i dont connect to a corporate network?

Also, does it affect downloading torrents?

Thanks,
Tim

You don't need it if you aren't using IPSec to secure communications on a domain network and/or if you are not using a VPN client that uses IKE for security or tunnel connection. If neither of the above is true, you can disable it - however, the service will restart itself and set itself to automatic if you don't disable it, and this is by design.

Thanks for the input

Tune Up Utilities seems to make the change to Manual after startup, so i am going to undisable it, and let the chips fall where they may, as I installed IPV6/Teredo on by BitTorrent client and it may be required by that, but i am not absolutely sure.

Cheers,
Tim
