Disappearing hard drive on resume from S3 sleep

Hi all,
I have a Win7Pro x64 box with 2 HDDs - an 80GB boot drive and a 500GB data drive, both Seagate Barracudas. On resume from S3 hybrid sleep, the data drive is often not detected. When this happens, the only way of making it reappear is to reboot the machine - either a "warm" reboot or a shutdown/startup works.

The machine is an HTPC running MediaPortal so schedules itself to wake up to make recordings, and so far (touch wood) when this happens the drive is detected - at least, no recordings have failed yet. It only seems to be manual wakes triggering this behaviour.

Googling the problem brings up many similar problems from ~2009/2010 which seem to be linked to using drives in AHCI mode. However, I'm using IDE mode for mine.
I've tried installing the hotfix (KB977178) anyway, but it just says it's not applicable.
I've tried updating chipset drivers, but the latest version released by Asus only offers to install an "away mode configuration utility" despite other drivers being present in the image.
I've flashed the latest BIOS version.
As far as I can tell, nothing different is logged in any of the Windows Logs in event viewer when the drive does not appear, unless there's somewhere else I should be looking?

Is there anything else I can try, or does anyone know where I can get some chipset drivers that actually install?

Hi

I would suggest preventing the hard drive to enter in power saving mode by changing the power plan settings.

Set "Hard Disk --> Turn off Hard Disk after" to "Never".

Will this stop the machine from entering S3 sleep?

EDIT: makes no difference anyway, drive still not detected on resume.

Edit edit: Actually, it might have done. More testing in progress.

Contrary to my edited previous post, altering the power plan settings to not turn off the disk has not solved the problem. The drive is still not present on resume from sleep.
