I have windows 7 on disc and on external HDD.
The disc drive is broken on the laptop so the disc won't run but just run it on another laptop so I know it works.

I have the ISO on a external HDD.. How can I run it on the laptop to install windows 7?

You can do it easily by burning the ISO to a USB stick and using it as an install media. Here's a free tool Microsoft has made to make this easy: Windows 7 USB/DVD tool

Download the tool, use it to create a bootable USB from the ISO. Boot computer using the USB and install.

Here some practical tutorials to install Windows 7 without any external device:

Thanks.

Then you didn't boot the external but ran the files from the external which is not a Clean Reinstall.

Did you overwrite the C partition, or install it to another partition? This is important to know.

Also, you should have a windows.old folder in C: which contains all of your old OS you can delete using Disk Cleanup after you're sure you have everything.

You'd have had a lot better install if you followed the steps I gave you.

Probably best to post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image to check it over and make sure the config is okay.
