I have a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and noticed something strange.
When I connect my flash drive to it the device lights up - which is normal. But when I click on click on "safely remove ...." a popup soon appears that says it is safe to remove the device - but - the drive remains lit up! In my XP laptop the flash drive goes dark when it is safe to remove it.
Is this a setting in W 7 or a defect in the way the new laptop handles the USB port?
Thanks, Jeff

Could be a driver incompatibility. As long as you make sure you've given the drive a few seconds after copying files to it to finish, you should be alright.

That is what I thought too but can you think of a way to figure out how to fix it? Which driver?

Probably the built in driver.

Have you tried doing a reformat of the thumb drive in Windows 7? It may help the computer recognize the drive better.

Thanks. I'll try that. I have to first empty it.

I think it's normal.

On both of my Win7 machines, the light on the flash drive remains lit after the "safe to remove" message is displayed. I believ that it was the same under Vista.

Thanks. That is weird. Seems to destroy the purpose of having the light there.

It's probably a drive incompatibility that the company will never fix because they don't release updates for those things.
